Next Plymouth Manager Odds: Who Will Succeed Ian Foster?

Plymouth Argyle are on the lookout for another new manager after Steven Schumacher’s replacement, Ian Foster, lasted just three months in charge.

It is understood that Neil Dewsnip will take interim charge for the last six games of the Championship season, but the best betting sites are poised with odds on a potential full-time replacement.

Plymouth, are by no means guaranteed safety in the second tier, but a 1-0 win over Rotherham in Dewsnip’s first game in charge has done the south coast side a world of favours.

This poses the question as to who will be leading the Plymouth side next season?

We’ve considered a pool of potential candidates that could take over the hot seat at Home Park for the 2024/25 campaign.

Neil And Warnock Are The Early Favourites

Alex Neil has asserted himself as the 2/1 frontrunner to succeed Foster according to football betting sites.

The Scotsman has been linked with a plethora of jobs across the Championship over recent months, since leaving his role as Stoke City manager back in December 2023.

Neil has managed three other Championship sides (Norwich, Preston and Sunderland) in the past decade and he would represent a sizeable coup for Plymouth, should they wish to remain in the second tier.

Neil Warnock is the 3/1 second favourite to assume the position as head coach of Plymouth.

He managed Plymouth between 1995 and 1997 and resides on the south coast, however, his latest managerial venture with Aberdeen didn’t go according to plan.

The 75-year-old has retired a couple of times already, but the attraction of this position may be enough to get the veteran on the sideline for another season.

Dewsnip And Heckingbottom Are The Next Best

Neil Dewsnip (7/2) orchestrated the perfect start to life as interim boss of Plymouth, claiming all three points on the road against a battling Rotherham side.

That victory was the first time Plymouth had picked up all three points since February 24 and has increased speculation that Dewsnip could get the job on a full-time basis.

If he manages to keep his side afloat this season, it could bolster his chances of securing the job on a full-time basis

Paul Heckingbottom has been out of a job since being sacked by Sheffield United earlier this season.

After a subpar start, a 5-0 defeat to relegation rivals Burnley was the final nail in the coffin of his Blades managerial career.

Heckingbottom is 5/1 with betting apps to take over at Home Park, and is almost certainly a figure that Plymouth will have their eyes on given his previous successes in the second tier.

Duff And Pearson Poised For The Call

Two former Championship managers who have their names in the hat are Michael Duff and Nigel Pearson.

Duff (6/1), was most recently in charge of Swansea, but one win in eight matches saw the former Barnsley boss relieved of his duties.

The 46-year-old had success with the Tykes and achieved promotion from League Two with Cheltenham in 2021. He could be what's needed to steady the ship

Ex-Leicester boss Pearson has been out of the dugout since October 2023, when he was last in charge of Bristol City.

There is no denying Pearson’s coaching acumen and at odds of 7/1 with new betting sites, he is one well worth keeping an eye on.

Williamson And Cook Make Up The Outsiders

Mike Williamson (8/1) and Paul Cook (10/1) are two managers that have had successful seasons with their respective clubs this campaign.

Williamson has guided his MK Dons side to a strong position in the hunt for an automatic promotion place in League Two. If the stars align, he could be in the away dugout at Home Park next season.

Meanwhile, Cook has already secured promotion from the National League with Chesterfield after a rampant campaign.

The Liverpudlian has prior experience on the south coast with Portsmouth and has also led Wigan Athletic to a League One title.

It would take a handsome sum of money to attract either boss away from their current position, but Plymouth must ensure that their next acquisition is the right one, regardless of the cost.
