Rob Edwards remains the hot favourite on betting sites to replace Vitor Pereira as Wolves boss, despite Middlesbrough turning down an approach for their manager.

Pereira was sacked following a 3-0 defeat Fulham which left winless Wolves rooted to the foot of the Premier League table with just two points from their opening 10 games.

Gary O'Neil held talks about returning to the club only to pull out of the process, but could another former player be heading to Molineux?

Gambling.com takes a look at some of the potential candidates and the latest next Wolves manager odds.

Edwards Odds-On

Rob Edwards made 100 appearances for Wolves between 2004-08 and was interim head coach for a couple of games when Walter Zenga was sacked in 2016, but could he return to Molineux on a permanent basis?

The Wolves board has been rebuffed in its move for Edwards, whose star is in the ascendancy once again after making an excellent start as Middlesbrough manager in the Championship.

Edwards remarkably led Luton into the Premier League via the 2023/24 play-offs and although they ruffled a few feathers in the top flight, the Hatters made an immediate return to the Championship where they struggled.

Rob Edwards

The former Forest Green manager was eventually shown the door in January after overseeing just seven wins in 26 games only to be installed as Michael Carrick's replacement at the Riverside Stadium in June.

Boro are in third place in the Championship, just five points behind leaders Coventry, so there is a possibility Edwards could still be in charge of a Premier League team next season.

Now that Wolves have made their move, the odds on Edwards joining his former club have plummeted to 1/5 with Ladbrokes.

Solskjaer Second Favourite

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a more straightforward option for the Wolves board if Boro continue to dig in their heels over Edwards.

The former Manchester United striker and manager was sacked by Besiktas towards the end of August after a Europa Conference League defeat by Lausanne ensured they would not be playing European football this season.

The Norwegian won the Tippeligaen with Molde in 2011 and 2012, and later steered United to the Europa League final in the 2020/21 season.

Solskjaer is available for work and can be backed at 10/1 on betting apps for the Wolves job.

Keane Drifts After Edwards Approach

Robbie Keane started his career with Wolves and went on to score 126 goals in the Premier League for many clubs, but is now making his name as a manager.

The former Republic of Ireland striker has spent all of his managerial career abroad where he has won league titles in Israel and Hungary with Maccabi Tel Aviv and his current club Ferencvaros.

The Hungarian champions are fourth in the table and have taken seven points from their first three games in the Europa League, so things are going well for Keane on the continent.

He was 6/1 when O'Neil was no longer regarded as a contender, but those odds have doubled to 12/1 now that the Wolves hierarchy has made its feelings known.

Ten Hag Still In The Picture

Erik ten Hag's odds have been oscillating all week, but the Dutchman is 12/1 on football betting sites now that Edwards is Wolves' preferred choice.

Ten Hag won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during a two-and-a-half-year spell with Manchester United which came to an end just over a year ago.

However, he returned to the dugout in May for a disastrously short-lived spell with Bayer Leverkusen which ended after just two Bundesliga games because of clashes with the board over transfers and a failure to connect with players

Ex-Celtic Boss Rodgers Drifts

Rodgers was the 2/1 favourite to land the Wolves job when Pereira was still at the club, but, since his dismissal, those odds have drifted dramatically to 16/1 with William Hill.

The Northern Irishman is out of a job after an acrimonious departure from Celtic following a 3-1 defeat at leaders Hearts.

The former Liverpool boss has left Parkhead to join a Premier League club before, moving to Leicester in February 2019, but could he be heading back to England for a second time?

Rodgers may be prepared to wait for a more high-profile role rather than take on a relegation battle with Wolves, but as things stand he is not being considered as an option to replace Pereira.

Carrick On The Slide

Former Manchester United midfielder Carrick remains without a managerial job since being sacked by Middlesbrough during the summer and is 20/1 to join Wolves as their head coach.

Aside from a short-lived spell as the Red Devils' caretaker manager, Carrick has only been head coach at Boro where he spent two-and-a-half seasons.

He led the club from 21st to the play-offs in his debut season and the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup in the following campaign.

Elsewhere, former Celtic, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou is also 20/1, the same price as England U21 head coach Lee Carsley, Sam Allardyce and O'Neil.

Despite signing a new contract in September, reports suggest Pereira will only get paid for six months of that deal as part of his departure.

Can someone explain to me the point in getting Pereira to sign a 3-year contract in September, when they were bottom of the leave and winless?

I think Rodgers or O'Neill would be great for Wolves, they need a new style or voice to get their season back on track.
