UEFA EUROS PARTICIPATING TEAMS

The Women's European Championship finals will feature 16 teams this year for the first time in its history. From a modest tournament that consisted of a semi-final and final in the 1984 Euros, the competition has consisted of at least 12 teams in the post-qualification rounds since Finland hosted it in 2009.

Total Attendance

The highest tournament-on-tournament growth in total attendance, where the number of games was also the same, occurred most recently: 217,000 people turned up to watch Euro 2013's 25 matches - 82,000 more than in Euro 2009.

During the eight-team tournament finals between 1989 and 2005, the highest attendance growth came in Euro 2001 which welcomed 160% more spectators than in Euro 1997 (92k total).

Television Audience

Euro 2013 viewing figures more than doubled from the previous finals in Finland 2009 (+85.3 million).

15.9m people tuned in to watch the final worldwide - a 59% increase on the previous tournament's showpiece viewership.

Investment / BUDGET ALLOCATED BY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION IN 2017

Among UEFA nations, the highest allocated budgets for women's football during the 2016/2017 season came from England (15.9m€), France (9.8m€), Germany (9m€), Norway (7.2m€), Sweden (5.1m€) and Netherlands (4.5m€).

Female youth numbers far exceed senior players in most countries, with the exception of six nations, including Serbia where senior players exceed youth numbers by 84%, and Greece where over-18's are 72% greater in number than younger Greek players.
