Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 3 Selections For Tuesday
The Panel are delighted to have Rhys Williams as part of our team of racing tipsters.
Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.
He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.
His profit and loss stands at -1.45 points from 55.0 points staked, with returns of 53.55 points - thanks to his 100/1 shot finishing third on Monday.
Here are Rhys' tips for Tuesday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.
13:20 Taunton: Religous Cross - 0.5pt Win @ 6/1
Religous Cross makes his hurdling debut in this novices’ hurdle and I think he could be more of a danger to the front pair than the market suggests.
He put up a good performance to win on debut in a maiden point over 2m4f and the third from that race, Indannya, has since run well under rules.
Religous Cross joined Neil Mulholland after and made his stable debut in a bumper at this track last month.
He still looked green in the first half of the race and wasn’t suited by the significantly slowly pace in the middle of the race so it was a good effort to finish second.
While that wasn’t a particularly strong bumper, I thought Religous Cross had the potential to be a fair bit better than he showed that day considering the inexperience and that he looked in need of a stiffer test of stamina.
I think he will likely end up needing further than 2m3f to show his best but this is more suitable for him and I’m hopeful he will have mentally matured for the experience last time too.
There is the concern that a repeat of the tactics used in both starts so far may not be ideal in a race of this nature but I think he’s a little overpriced and any 11/2 or bigger appeals.

14:35 Haydock: Pippin's Legend - 0.5pt Win @ 18/1
If the going description rather than the going stick is a better guide of conditions at Haydock this afternoon, that is likely to suit Pippin’s Legend who showed promise on debut despite the ground looking softer than ideal.
He made his debut in a bumper at Huntingdon and showed some inexperience turning down the back straight.
He travelled well into contention approaching the home straight and moved into third before looking green when coming under pressure and being unable to continue that progress, fading late on into fourth.
As well as that greenness, Pippin’s Legend’s action suggested he wanted better ground so I’m hoping that is what he will get today.
There is the obvious unknown over how he will jump on hurdling debut but this is a weak contest and he looks a bit overpriced given his potential for improvement.
Any 14/1 or bigger appeals.
Rhys' Selection 2: 14:35 Haydock - Pippin's Legend - 0.5pt Win
15:40 Haydock: Rauzan - 0.5pt Win @ 28/1
Rauzan is another who will appreciate the better ground if that is what he is getting at Haydock.
He finished last on his first start for Lizzie Quinlan but showed more at Carlisle last time despite the ground being softer than ideal.
His jockey also wasn’t too urgent on him as the pace quickened entering the home straight and Rauzan lost ground while not being asked for an effort until after jumping two out, at which point he had lost touch with the leaders.
It may be that Rauzan just isn’t as good as he once was, or that he needs further to be seen at his best.
However, he showed an appreciation for better ground when winning four in a row over hurdles for his previous yard.
So there is a chance he could bounce back for such conditions today.
Any 20/1 or bigger appeals.
