Betting on Coastal Carolina at the Birmingham Bowl

Make no mistake, Coastal Carolina can move the ball and light up the scoreboard.

The team’s offensive prowess is led by Grayson McCall, a redshirt junior quarterback from Indian Trail, N.C., recently named the 2022 Sun Belt Conference player of the year. He is the first Sun Belt football player to three-peat for that honor.

McCall’s superb 2022 performance resulted in a 176.10 passing efficiency rating, second highest in the nation. During the 2022 campaign, he accounted for 275.4 yards of total offense per game, including 257.1 passing yards per game. He was  21st in the nation in the number of points he was responsible for each game, an average of 16.7 points. 

Though McCall has entered the transfer portal, he is expected to play in the Birmingham Bowl.

When you consider the Chanticleers also have the conference freshman of the year, running back Jared Brown, it becomes clear that this is a team that can move the ball.

Betting on East Carolina at the Birmingham Bowl

East Carolina is capable of putting points on the board, averaging 30.7 per game in the tough American Athletic Conference, but also can sputter offensively. The Pirates only scored nine points against Tulane and three against Houston.

But the team’s bruising offense, led by All-Conference first-team running back Keaton Mitchell, can move the chains and eat up some clock. This season, the Pirates averaged 170.5 yards per game on the ground, with the 5-foot-9, 184-pound Mitchell, a McDonough, Georgia, product, doing most of the heavy lifting. 

In the final game against Temple, a 49-46 ECU victory, Mitchell tied a career-high with 222 rushing yards. Bettors can look for more of the same in the Birmingham Bowl from this stellar running back and can look for the Pirates to control the ball — and the game.
