The Premier League kicks off on Friday when Liverpool start their title defence against Bournemouth at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah scored 29 goals for the Reds last season to win the Golden Boot for a record-equalling fourth time and go level with Thierry Henry, but could he make it a fifth at the end of the 2025/26 campaign?

Betting sites have installed Manchester City striker Erling Haaland as the early favourite to win the accolade for a third time, with Salah viewed as his nearest challenger.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all refreshed their attacking options ahead of the new season, but the old guard remains ahead of the rest.

The summer transfer window closes on September 1, so there is still time for new names to be considered for the Premier League’s top scorer.

We take a look at the Premier League top scorer betting odds for the new campaign and pick out a couple of each-way selections for the Golden Boot.

Premier League Top Scorer Odds: Erling Haaland

Haaland was the third most prolific scorer last season with 22 goals, seven adrift of Salah, but he is the 6/4 favourite with football betting sites to bag the highest number of goals.

It should not be forgotten that the Norwegian missed around six weeks with injury during the run-in which equated to seven games, so had he played all 38 games like Salah, he could have been looking at a third successive Golden Boot.

However, Pep Guardiola described City’s first trophyless season since 2017 as the “most difficult” of his 17-year career and it seems unlikely that Haaland would have scored in every game he missed to draw level with Salah.

City are going through a period of transition and this season will be without assist king Kevin De Bruyne, whose glorious 10-year career at the Etihad ended with a move to Serie A champions Napoli, so who will supply the goals for Haaland?

Left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri and central midfielder Tijjani Reijnders look like excellent signings, but perhaps Savinho will be the player to feed Haaland in a new-look team, although he has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

The Brazilian was inside the top 10 for assists in the Premier League last season with eight.

Haaland does not seem as lethal as he was in his first two seasons, but with new players energising the squad, he could be back to his best in the new campaign.

Premier League Top Scorer Betting: Mohamed Salah

Not only was Salah last season’s top scorer in the Premier League, he also provided the most assists with 18, six more than his nearest rival Jacob Murphy.

It was an incredible campaign for the Egyptian, so it seems remarkable that for most of the season he was in the dark about whether he would be staying at Anfield.

With his contract coming to an end in the summer, Salah eventually signed a new two-year deal, much to the relief of the Liverpool faithful.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai supplied the second most number of assists with six apiece, but the former is now at Real Madrid, so the Hungarian and new signing Florian Wirtz are likely to be crucial to Salah’s chances of winning the Golden Boot.

Only Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise (15) assisted more goals than Bayer Leverkusen’s Wirtz in the 2024/24 Bundesliga campaign and he is expected to be in the thick of the action in his maiden Premier League season.

Salah, though, is capable of producing something out of nothing and still looks a livewire at 11/2 with Sporting Index in the Premier League top scorer odds.

Premier League Top Scorer Tips: Alexander Isak

Isak scored a third of Newcastle’s goals last season, but it remains unclear where he will be spending the 2025/26 campaign.

The Swede is training on his own because of his desire to join Liverpool, who had a £110million offer rejected by the Magpies at the start of August.

Eddie Howe revealed Isak will not be involved in the opening game against Aston Villa, so his Golden Boot rivals already have an advantage.

Isak scored the second highest number of Premier League goals last season (23) and could net more should he join the Premier League champions, a move which would enhance his prospects of winning the Golden Boot.

Now entering his fourth season in the North-East, Newcastle’s penalty-taker has improved year on year with the number of goals he has scored and he has to be considered at 13/2, even with doubts surrounding his future.

Premier League Top Scorer Tips: Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta finally got his hands on the striker he believes can lead his club to the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years.

The Gunners played without a recognised number nine last season and finished runners-up for a third successive year, but could Viktor Gyokeres be the man to help end the drought?

Arsenal spent up to £63.5m on the Swede, who scored 66 goals in 68 appearances during two title-winning campaigns with Portuguese side Sporting following his 2023 move from Coventry.

Gyokeres has already provided an insight into his abilities when he opened his account with a brilliant header in a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in a pre-season friendly and there is surely more to come.

The 27-year-old hitman is generally available at 13/2 to be the Premier League's leading scorer after 38 games.

Premier League Golden Boot Odds: Chelsea Duo In The Frame

Cole Palmer was a Golden Boot contender in the first half of last season and by mid-January had scored 14 goals, but added just one more before the campaign ended in May.

Once again, the Blues have spent big during the summer transfer window and much is expected of them this season on the back of their Club World Cup triumph.

Palmer is 20/1 to win the Golden Boot, but new signing Joao Pedro has been slashed from 28/1 to 18/1 on the back of an excellent Club World Cup and pre-season.

The Brazilian struck an exceptional double against Fluminense in the Club World Cup semi-final and got on the scoresheet in the 3-0 victory over European champions PGS in the showpiece.

He also scored against both Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan in a couple of friendlies last week, so Chelsea fans are clearly excited about what he could achieve.

Joao Pedro bagged 10 goals for Brighton last term and will need to score at least 15 more if he is to win the Golden Boot.

Rivals Have New Strikeforce

Manchester United and Liverpool head into the new campaign bolstered by new forwards in their squads, but both are outsiders for the Golden Boot.

The Red Devils splashed out a potential £74m for Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko, who netted 27 goals in three seasons with Leipzig.

Sesko is available at 25/1 with Ladbrokes to win the Golden Boot.

Liverpool's new signing Hugo Ekitike is slightly lower at 22/1 following his move from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 23-year-old Frenchman netted 15 goals in 33 appearances for the Bundesliga side last season and is expected to be just as prolific at Anfield.

Premier League Golden Boot Betting: Watkins And Cunha Outsiders

Ollie Watkins is 28/1 for the Golden Boot, but the striker has never scored 20 goals or more in five seasons with Aston Villa and looks like one to avoid.

The England international enjoyed his best season in the 2023/24 campaign when he scored 19 times, but you have to go back to 2009 when that number proved enough for Nicolas Anelka to be crowned the Premier League’s top scorer.

The odds on Manchester United’s new signing Matheus Cunha have lengthened significantly from 28/1 to 66/1 following his high-profile move from Wolves which looks like excellent value.

The Brazilian netted 15 goals last season and with Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko in the squad, United are expected to play on the front foot.

Elsewhere, Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke is available at 33/1, while Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, Manchester City attacker Omar Marmoush and Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta can be backed at 50/1 on betting apps which are offering 1/4 odds on the top four.

Brentford's Yoane Wissa, linked with a move to Newcastle, is also 50/1, but Chelsea new-boy Liam Delap has drifted to 70/1 as it looks like he could play second fiddle to Joao Pedro.
