Chris Paul Next Team Odds: Who is Favored to Land CP3?

Bradley Beal was the first big name to change teams when the Washington Wizards decided to ship the three-time All-Star guard to the Phoenix Suns.

As a result of the trade, Chris Paul was sent to the Wizards, but don’t expect the 12-time All-Star to play for Washington.

The Wizards are seeking a potential third team who could be interested in Paul or could buy him out and let him sign with a team of his choosing.

Where Could Chris Paul Land?

At 38 years old, Paul is in the twilight of his career and still seeking an NBA title. His age and the career goal of winning a championship means Paul will only be joining a team at the top of the futures betting market with a roster ready to compete.

Here are some hypothetical NBA betting odds for who might pick up Paul.

Team Odds
Los Angeles Clippers +225
Los Angeles Lakers +500
Philadelphia 76ers +700
Milwaukee Bucks +900
Boston Celtics +1100
Miami Heat +1200
Dallas Mavericks +1400

Los Angeles Clippers

A return to the Clippers would also make sense for Paul. With Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, Paul would have numerous offensive threats to distribute to while also being able to work his way through a regular season without too much of a workload.

The Clippers also need another high-level offensive guard with just Russell Westbrook and Bones Hyland at the point for Los Angeles.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst expects the Clippers to be the favorites right now, reporting the Wizards have already reached out to the Clippers about a possible Paul trade package.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers have been connected to Paul early on in this process, according to The Athletic, which is reporting the Lakers have a strong interest in Paul if he is waived. Paul would serve as another facilitator in the Lakers offense and could take some of the offensive pressure off LeBron James while also being effective in the pick-and-roll with Anthony Davis.

Playing alongside James and Davis would allow Paul to have a decreased role during the regular season before ramping up for the postseason. Paul has had injury issues recently, including in the last three playoffs and six of nine overall.

Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers’ interest could depend on what happens with James Harden. If Harden leaves, Paul could slide in as the team’s main distributor and work alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. It’s hard to imagine Paul joining the 76ers if Harden is still there given the tumultuous relationship the two had together in Houston.

Milwaukee Bucks

Milwaukee has important offseason decisions ahead. The Bucks could possibly lose out on Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. Middleton has a player option, while Lopez is an unrestricted free agent. Losing them could open up the possibility of bringing on Paul, who could split time in the backcourt with Jrue Holiday or run the second unit.

Boston Celtics

Much of Boston’s offensive struggles last season came down the stretch in games. Paul could alleviate some of those issues with the way he manages the game and routinely gets his teams into efficient offensive sets. It would also help take away some of the offensive ball pressure Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown face against defenses. Tatum led the team with 5.3 assists per game last year, but Paul would be the best playmaker on the roster and an upgrade offensively.

Tatum and Brown each had turnover issues the last two postseasons, and adding Paul should help fix that issue.

Miami Heat

Paul would seem like an ideal fit for the Heat culture. He cares most about winning and is known for his intense attention to detail and basketball IQ. With the Heat coming off a Finals run, the team could look to add a veteran like Paul, especially if the team loses guards Max Strus and Gabe Vincent to free agency.

Dallas Mavericks

It seems unlikely Dallas would be at the top of Paul’s list given how the Mavericks floundered to end the season. But the high-level offensive talent of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving would be appealing for Paul, who already has experience playing with high-volume usage players such as Harden, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant.
