The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season comes to a crescendo on Sunday with the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The 36th race of the 2018 campaign will also determine this year’s champion with four drivers eligible to walk away with the hardware Sunday night in south Florida.

Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick are the quartet with the opportunity to win the title. The format is simple, just finish ahead in the final results over the other three contenders and the title is yours.

Of course in the unique format of NASCAR the four competitors are still part of a 400-mile race with 36 other drivers trying to end their year on a up note in Victory Lane.

So the champ doesn’t necessarily have to win the race but rather just be ahead of the other three on track when the checkered flag flies.

The resume of the four championship drivers is impressive. Logano, Busch, Truex Jr. and Harvick have combined to win 22 of the year’s 35 races to date. Busch and Harvick have 16 between them of those 22.

This year also marks the first time all the Championship 4 drivers have made return trips to the title-deciding event with Busch, Truex Jr. and Harvick all previous series champs while Logano is in search of his first trophy.

But the four drivers under the spotlight won’t necessarily be the best in terms of having an opportunity to win the race. While all previous four editions of this championship-deciding format have seen the race winner be the champ, it’s not a foregone conclusion this year.

There are a number of drivers outside the title fight very capable of running well and winning the last race of the season on Sunday too.

For NASCAR betting fans, here’s the case for each of the final four.

1. Kevin Harvick | +200 at 888Sport

   The best driver at Homestead over the course of the last 10 races held at the track is indeed Harvick.

   Just like last week’s visit to ISM Raceway in Phoenix, Harvick’s recent average finish (4.4) at the track is head and shoulders above most of the competition at nearly three positions better than the next closest driver Kyle Larson (7.6).

   Harvick’s eight wins so far this season have included several wins on 1.5-mile tracks like Homestead and his Stewart-Haas Racing organization utilizing Ford power will no doubt have top notch equipment at Harvick’s disposal for this crucial race.

   Harvick is also still motivated by the run of events that took his Texas win away as an automatic berth to the championship race when his car failed inspection. Time and again in his career Harvick performs best when he feels there’s something to prove. He is a huge favorite and rightfully so on Sunday.

2. Kyle Busch | +225 at SugarHouse

   While not as eye-popping as fellow Championship 4 driver Kevin Harvick’s Homestead stats, Busch has an impressive body of work in south Florida of his own.

   He won the race in 2015 to seal his first career Cup Series title and since then has not finished outside the top-10 including a runner-up finish to Martin Truex Jr. last season.

   Busch comes to the title race with momentum from last week’s Phoenix win and a strong chance to claim title No. 2.

3. Martin Truex Jr. | +275 at 888Sport

   While it’s a swan song for his team when the Furniture Row racing operation shuts down at season’s end, Truex Jr. will be gainfully employed next year when he moves to Joe Gibbs Racing.

   This is a tight knit group that is determined to go out on top. Truex has come around in recent years at Homestead including his emotional win last year that clinched the championship.

   He’s won four times this year, has an average finish just inside six on 1.5-mile tracks in 2018 and has the benefit of experience having gone through the pressure of this championship race before.

4. Joey Logano | +350 at SugarHouse

   Homestead has been a place of what might have been for Logano over the years including two years ago when if not for a late race accident with now retired Carl Edwards, he may have won the race and the crown.

   Logano missed being eligible for last season’s championship but still knocked down his third straight Homestead top-10 finish with a sixth-place run.

   Look for some pit strategy to give Logano needed track position when he needs it from crew chief Todd Gordon as well.
