Throughout the season, we will give you betting advice for a National League and American League game each day and throw in a few quick pitches for player prop bets, Over-Under bets or moneyline bets on other games.

American League Best Bet

Chicago White Sox (-165) at Texas Rangers (+140)

8:05 p.m. ET

The White Sox are getting healthier and starting to play better, but still trail Tampa Bay by two games in the third and final AL wild-card berth race.

The Rangers are not in contention but are a team that has played better ball over the summer. Still, they have lost three straight and seven of their last 10 games.

Chicago has won four of six games and won the last two three-game series against the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland A’s.

Situational Trends and Angles

The following situational trends and angles support a best bet on the Rangers.

  • The Rangers’ skipper Chris Woodward is 21-11, making 16 units on the moneyline, after three or more consecutive losses.
  • White Sox manager Tony LaRussa is 12-19, losing 13 units on the moneyline, when playing on Thursdays.
  • The Rangers are 17-11, making 15 units on the moneyline, when facing an AL starting pitcher with an ERA of 2.90 or lower in games played over the past two seasons.

I am betting the Rangers using the moneyline at +125 at BetMGM.

National League Best Bet

Washington Nationals (+165) at Philadelphia Phillies (-195)

7:05 p.m. ET

The Philadelphia Phillies are going to be a team on the rise and will be more than competitive in the first round of the playoffs after this season.

The Phillies might be the most undervalued franchise at 22:1 to win the National League. They are facing the worst team in the NL, and I expect them to sweep the Washington Nationals.

Situational Trends and Angles

The following situational betting trends and angles support a bet on the Over in this matchup.

  • Phillies pitcher Kyle Gibson is 30-11 Over in home games played in the second half of the season, facing a foe that strands 6.9 or fewer runner on base.
  • Gibson is 14-2 Over when facing a team in the second half of the season that is being outscored by at least one or more runs per game.
  • The Nationals are 27-14 Over as a road underdog of +150 to +200 in games played over the past two seasons.

I will bet the Over, priced at nine runs +100 as offered at -160 at FanDuel.

Quick Pitches

These are the player prop bets to consider on today’s schedule.

  1. Bet the Red Sox’ Tommy Pham to get a hit paying –225 at FanDuel.
  2. Bet the Angels’ Luis Rengifo to get a hit paying –225 at DraftKings.
  3. Bet Red Sox’ Rafael Devers to get a double +300 at BetMGM.
