EFL Betting Tips: League One And League Two Treble For The Opening Weekend

The EFL resumes this weekend as League One and League Two get under way for the 2025/26 campaign - and there is plenty to look out for from betting sites.

The action begins on Friday night as Luton host Wimbledon.

Huddersfield, another relegated team from the Championship, are among the League One teams set to start their campaign on Saturday against Leyton Orient.

Meanhile, Barnet are looking to announce their return to League Two with a win over Fleetwood Town.

Here is our treble featuring those three matches - an EFL acca that works out at around 9/2 with football betting sites.

EFL Prediction: Luton To Get Off To Winning Start

The season before last, Luton Town were rubbing shoulders with Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League, while Wimbledon were facing Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers in League Two.

On Friday night, they will be meeting as equals in the League One curtain-raiser.

Wimbledon escaped League Two last time out, beating Walsall 1-0 in the play-off final. But Luton’s demise is the main story, with back-to-back demotions sending them tumbling down from top to third flight.

The Hatters actually ended last season well, winning three of their last four games as Matt Bloomfield began to get his ideas across to the squad he inherited in January.

However, it was a case of too little, too late, with Luton ultimately finishing third-bottom on goal difference.

The Hatters are the favourites with betting apps to win the League One title this term. They are still receiving parachute payments from the Premier League, and that gives them a huge financial advantage.

Bloomfield showed promise towards the end of 2024/25 and Luton have a talented squad at this level.

Wimbledon have a more modest target: survival. They should be competitive in League One under the astute Johnnie Jackson, but this is a really tough opener.

Luton should dominate this encounter under the lights at Kenilworth Road, with Wimbledon’s defence likely to come under serious pressure.

EFL Tips: Huddersfield Face Orient Test

Huddersfield Town occupied a play-off place right up until the end of March last season, but a dismal end to the campaign saw them fall away dramatically.

The Terriers lost each of their last six games of the season to slump to a 10th-place finish, a collapse which ensured interim boss Jon Worthington was not handed the reins on a permanent basis.

Lee Grant is the man in the hot seat at the start of the new season, and the former goalkeeper has been tasked with leading Huddersfield back into the Championship.

It is a risky appointment given Grant has never managed before, but the Yorkshire outfit have done some smart business in the transfer market.

They will be tested by Leyton Orient on the opening weekend, though. Richie Wellens led the Londoners into the play-offs last season and that will be the aim again this time around, although Orient have lost some key players since then.

Still, Wellens’ side have enough about them to find the back of the net at the Accu Stadium.

EFL Picks: Barnet To Come Back With A Bang

Barnet have already begun their season, losing on penalties to Newport County in an EFL Cup preliminary tie

The Bees trailed 2-0 deep into second-half stoppage time, when two quick-fire goals completed a remarkable comeback. However, Newport held their nerve to win the shoot-out 4-2.

Dean Brennan did not pull any punches post-match, lamenting some “rubbish defending” from his team and comparing the breakdown of Barnet’s backline to “the parting of the Red Sea”.

However, there were plenty of positives for the Irishman to take from his team’s performance.

Barnet were the better team in the first half, only to find themselves 2-0 down at the interval thanks to two stunning Newport goals.

They lost their way for a while after the break, but Barnet kept playing their football and were eventually rewarded.

Having won the National League in style last term, Barnet do not intend to merely make up the numbers in League Two.

Fleetwood Town, who finished 14th in the fourth tier in 2024/25, could be in for a tough afternoon in north London.

With home advantage behind them, Barnet can get off to a winning start in their first EFL game since 2018.
