England Women Vs Italy Women Betting Tips: 3 Semi-Final Tips From Switzerland

England are just two wins away from glory at the European Women’s Championship and betting sites make them favourites in Tuesday's semi-final against Italy.

The Lionesses advanced to the last four in dramatic fashion. A dismal start against Sweden saw them go 2-0 down in the first half, before two quickfire efforts after the break secured parity.

There were no more goals in regulation or extra time, and the game was ultimately settled by a penalty shoot-out that was low on quality, but high on suspense.

England have had a mixed time of it so far in Switzerland, but even though they have not always been at their best, the defending champions have a good chance of retaining their crown.

Sarina Wiegman would no doubt prefer a more routine victory over Italy on Tuesday, but winning is key in the knockout phase of a major tournament and the method does not really matter.

Will England secure their place in the final of Euro 2025 or will Italy be celebrating when the final whistle sounds at the Stade de Geneve?

Let’s take a deeper look at the match, as well as picking out our top three England Women vs Italy Women betting tips.

England Women Vs Italy Women Tips: July 22

England Women Vs Italy Women Betting Tips: Lionesses To Roar

Italy are through to the semi-finals of the European Women’s Championship for the first time since 1997, when they finished as runners-up to Germany.

The Azzurre finished second in their group this time around, before edging out Norway 2-1 in the quarters. They are now aiming to reach the final of the competition for a third time.

Italy left it late to triumph in the last eight. Cristiana Girelli, who had given her team the lead early in the second half, struck again in the 90th minute to send Italy through.

It was an even game, but Andrea Soncin’s side were ultimately more decisive in the final third. England were not at their best against Sweden, but Wiegman will take heart from the way her team bounced back from a poor start.

Player for player, England look significantly stronger than Italy. They also have a solid track record in knockout football.

Meanwhile, each of England’s matches in Switzerland has featured over 2.5 goals and this one will probably not be any different, so The Panel are on board that outcome at 6/5 with football betting sites.

England Vs Italy Predictions: Fast Start Needed By Champions

England hit the ground trudging against Sweden. They were behind with less than two minutes on the clock, before the Scandinavians increased their advantage a quarter of the way into the game.

Wiegman’s women barely carried a threat in the opening period; one more goal for Sweden before half-time would surely have put the game beyond the holders.

It was not the first time this summer that England have been slow out of the blocks.

The Lionesses were outclassed against France in the first half of their opening game, and while they did stage a recovery of sorts late on, it was ultimately a case of too little, too late.

Wiegman will demand more intensity from her players from the first whistle on Tuesday. They bounced back from that disappointing display against France by thumping the Netherlands 4-0, with two goals in each half.

England can find the back of the net either side of the interval again here at 5/4 with betting apps.

Italy have kept things reasonably tight defensively so far, but England have the attacking firepower to cause the Azzurre serious problems.

England Vs Italy Tips: Back James To Bounce Back

Lauren James was one of four England players who failed to convert from 12 yards in the penalty shoot-out against Sweden, but the Chelsea forward was a bright spark in the game itself.

There were concerns over James’s fitness heading into Euro 2025, but she has emerged as one of England’s leading performers in Switzerland.

That is no surprise. James is a supremely talented attacker who demonstrated her poise, skill and trickery against the Swedes.

She impressed in the group stage too, not least in scoring a brace against the Netherlands. James will be integral to England’s chances of winning a second European Women’s Championship on the bounce.

"I rate her very highly as I do many other players in my team," Wiegman said of James earlier in the tournament. "She’s a very good player. She’s playing through her strengths, and she’s doing that really well."

Italy’s defenders will have their hands full in trying to keep James quiet on Tuesday night.
