To say that Michel Sanchez is doing a superb job with the Catalan club would be an understatement.
He led Girona to promotion from the second tier in his debut campaign at the helm, then secured a top-half finish in the top tier of Spanish football in 2022/23.
That was only the start of it. Against all odds, Michel’s side are level on points with Real Madrid at the top of the table after 19 rounds of fixtures.
Girona could become the most surprising champions in La Liga history. At the very least, they are well positioned to qualify for the Champions League.

At the time of writing Michel’s men are 10 points clear of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in fourth and third respectively. Both clubs are seen as contenders for the 48-year-old’s signature.
Atletico Madrid are priced at 4/1. Diego Simeone has been in charge of the club from the capital since December 2011 and he recently extended his contract to 2027.
For that reason, it is hard to see Michel joining Atletico any time soon.

Manchester City Have Connections With Michel’s Current Employers
Girona are part of the City Football Group, so it is somewhat surprising that Man City are only 10/1 outsiders in this market on new betting sites.
Of course, no one at the Etihad Stadium will be pushing Pep Guardiola out before he is ready to leave, but the Catalan is likely to depart the club in 2025.
Michel will probably be a leading contender to replace him, provided he is still at Girona at that point.
That is far from impossible, especially if he wants to lead the club in the Champions League next season.
