Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 1 Selection For Thursday

He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.

Here is Rhys' tip for Thursday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.
13:05 Taunton: Way Of Stars - 0.5pt Win @ 15/2
It was reported after his hurdling debut at Exeter that Way Of Stars would prefer a sounder surface and I think that is accurate, but I think the market has overreacted to that comment for today’s race given the level that he still managed to run to that day.
He raced keenly early on and pulled his way to the front on the very long run to the second hurdle. He settled better down the back straight and was headed jumping the second.
He made a mistake at the last in the back straight, which left him in third and while he never improved that position after, he remained in contention and was only a couple of lengths behind the leader jumping the last before fading on the run-in.
The winner of that race, Klycot, goes very well in testing conditions and followed that up with a second in the Finale and a victory under a penalty at Wetherby while Lord Byron went on to finish fourth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham next time.
The quality of that form is up there with the best on offer in this maiden hurdle and I can’t see the ground being any worse than it was at Exeter so hopefully Way Of Stars will be capable of handling it if not necessarily thriving on it.
A hood goes on which may help him to settle better in the early stages and the flat track could be more to his liking than Exeter too.
There is a concern that today will be more about teaching him to settle and finish off the race stronger, and it could be that he won’t be able to repeat that form if they go a stronger pace from the off.
However, I think Way Of Stars is overpriced in a race of this quality and any 6/1 or bigger appeals.
