2021 Hawaii Bowl Betting

The Hawaii Bowl is one of the non-College Football Playoff (CFP) bowls played every season. It usually takes place around Christmas Eve between a team from the Mountain West Conference (MWC) and the AAC (American Athletic Conference) or Conference USA.
The 2020 Hawai’i Bowl was canceled due to COVID-19, but fans will be looking forward to the 2021 edition after a year of disruption. This year, based on committee rankings that were announced in early December, the 2021 bowl will be between Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the Memphis Tigers. Betting on Memphis at the Hawaii Bowl
The Memphis Tigers were 6-6 in the current season but beat Tulane in November to make them bowl-eligible. This will be Memphis’ first appearance in a Hawai’i Bowl but the eighth straight appearance in a Bowl.
The Tigers will be hoping for a performance like last year’s when they beat Florida Atlantic 25-10 in the Montgomery Bowl. That stopped the rot of five straight Bowl losses stretching back to 2015.
Scoring will likely be Memphis’ big issue come December 24. They average just 30.1 points a game. You have to go back to the Miami Beach Bowl in 2014 to find a Memphis team that scored more than 40 (55), the year they won.
Betting on Hawaii at the Hawaii Bowl
Hawaii has – understandably – made the most appearances in the Hawaii Bowl with a record nine. And historically, the Rainbow Warriors have performed well on home soil. They have won every Hawai’i Bowl that they have hosted since the game’s name change in 2002.
Not only that, but the Rainbow Warriors’ winning margin in the majority of those games has been over 10 points. Only in 2019, when Hawaii beat BYU 38-34, has the margin been so tight.
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors finished the 2021 season with a 6-7 record and a winning streak of just two games. However, their recent record in Honolulu has been excellent, winning 50-45 against Colorado State in November and 48-34 vs New Mexico State a month earlier.
2021 Hawaii Bowl Odds
US sports betting sites were quick to have their odds available for the Hawaii Bowl. You can bet pre-game before the Bowl starts at the Ching Athletics Complex. You’ll also find a range of in-play betting options including point spread, total points and total team points. Memphis are the favorites with many sportsbooks, unusual given they are the away team.
Hawaii Bowl Moneyline Odds
The moneyline bet is a straight wager on the winner of the Hawaii Bowl. One team is assigned the favorite (with negative odds) and the other the underdog (with positive odds).
Despite playing at home, Hawaii Rainbow Warriors haven’t inspired confidence at the sportsbooks. They go in a general underdog to the Memphis Tigers at +280 and that could represent some value.
Though Hawaii’s final stats this season weren’t good, they ended with a two-game winning streak and that form could see them through in the Bowl. However, Memphis will have the power of Brandon Thomas returning, and this could be swaying the bookies’ judgment.

Hawaii Bowl Point Spread Odds
The point spread is a wager on a team winning with either a points handicap or advantage. The favorite will be handicapped by a points total assigned by the sportsbook. If they ‘cover the spread’ they’ll have scored enough points to cancel out their handicap.
The Memphis Tigers have been favored by 7.5 points twice in the season and covered that once. That’s not a definitive form to consider when most online sportsbooks have Memphis as a -7.5pt spread for the Hawaii Bowl.
However, that’s certainly better than the 5 wins from 13 against the spread that the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors have recorded. In fact, the Warriors have been made a 7.5-point underdog six times this regular season, covering the spread three times.

Hawaii Bowl Over/Under Odds
The Over/Under bet is a wager on the total points scored in the Hawaii Bowl. Most sportsbooks have the point set at 55.5 points. You can bet over or under and get a price on either outcome. Typically, the odds are set based on the teams’ previous match-ups and form over the season. The sportsbooks will also take the home advantage into account and the performance of the star quarterbacks.

Hawaii Bowl Prop Bets
Prop bets are special wagers that bear no relation to the final score. Player prop bets for the bowl game are harder to find. However, some of the best US sportsbooks will offer props based on team performance.
If you can find player prop bets on the Hawaii Bowl, there are plenty of opportunities out there. All eyes will be on Hawaii’s running back, Dae Dae Hunter, who ended the season with one of the best Rushing Yards per Carry (YPC) stats in the conference.
You can also bet on individual teams’ total points for the whole game or each half. Do a little digging and you can find some value backing either side based on their first-half strengths.

Hawaii Bowl Betting Tips
Looking for the best bets on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors or Memphis Tigers? Here are some key tips for the big game this Christmas.
Hawaii to win (+280)
Home advantage, a decent run-in, and Calvin Turner Jr – the value on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors is too good to pass up. While Hawai’i will be without Chevan Cordeiro – who left before the Warriors knew of their Hawaii Bowl place – the value is still there.
Both Teams to Score 20+ Points (-182)
Both Hawaii and Memphis were free-scoring in the run-in to December’s big clash at the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletics Complex. Hawaii scored an average of just over 30 points during the season, so this bet looks locked in.
Over 55.5 Points (-110)
With Seth Henigan back for Memphis and Calvin Turner Jr pulling the strings for Hawaii, this could be a big-scoring game. An odds-on wager on over 55.5 points seems the sensible money.
Avoid the 7.5-point Spreads
Most sportsbooks are going for a 7.5-point spread either way. A better wager is to find a sportsbook with a tighter spread. You can get -110 for a -7.5-point spread on Memphis. However, if you like Memphis, you’ll find better prices on Memphis to win by exact scores. For instance, Memphis is +1400 to win by exactly 10 points and +3300 to win by exactly 11 points.
