He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.
His profit and loss record for 2026 stands at -25.62 points from 27.50 points staked.
Here are Rhys' tips for Friday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.
14:40 Meydan: High Season - 0.5pt Win @ 25/1
High Season hasn’t shown much in four starts for these connections seen being bought for 250,000gns, but all of those runs have been on dirt.
I think a switch back to turf has the potential to bring about a return to better form.
He started his career with Charlie Johnston and looked a promising type when chasing home subsequent Derby fifth Stanhope Gardens on debut at Beverley while looking green.
High Season didn’t build on that next time when running poorly at York, but bounced back on his final start for Johnston with an easy victory at Redcar.
While it is a bit concerning just how little he’s shown on the dirt since, he’s not remotely bred to appreciate that surface so he could suddenly come back to life on turf.
The trip is a slight doubt but the promise he showed in Britain suggested that he could be better than a rating of 89 and any 16/1 or bigger appeals.

14:40 Meydan: Thundering - 0.5pt Win @ 33/1
At an even bigger price in the same race, I think Thundering is being underestimated by the market on his return to the turf.
I thought he ran surprisingly well after a slow start on the dirt last time, showing that he’s in good form.
Prior to that, he showed that he can cope with this trip when ridden handier than was the case at Meydan last year and winning on the all weather at Pau.
The quality of that run and his performances at this track over further last season suggest that he could still have more to come from a rating of 87.
The wide draw is a worry but hopefully he won’t get stuck too wide around the turn and any 20/1 or bigger appeals.
