Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 3 Selections For Friday

Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.
He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.
Here are his tips for Friday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.
14:07 Southwell: Vango Can Go - 1pt Win @ 5/2
Vango Can Go caught my attention prior to the Cheltenham April Sale following a promising debut and I think he has a good chance of making a successful start under rules in the bumper at Southwell.
On his debut at Ballyragget, his jumping was clumsy at times during the first couple of circuits and he was hampered when looking to make headway after turning down the back straight for the final time.
He recovered and moved into third approaching the end of the back straight after which he was pushed along and looked a bit green.
Once coming under stronger pressure, he picked up well and moved into the leading line of three at two out where he made a bad mistake and was then hampered by the fall of Oatsoeasy.
Vango Can Go couldn’t recover to make a challenge after that, but kept going well enough to finish second.

While it was a bit disappointing that the winner was beaten on rules debut, I expect he’s better than he showed that day as I think this was a good quality maiden.
There is a slight doubt over whether Vango Can Go is necessarily a bumper type, but I think he has plenty of ability and any 9/4 or bigger appeals.
14:07 Southwell: Good Boy Griff - 0.5pt Win @ 33/1
In the same race, I can’t let Good Boy Griff go unbacked in the hope that he settles better today than he did on his rules debut at Uttoxeter.
He showed ability when not beaten far in fourth in a good maiden at Daramona House on the same day that Vango Can Go made his debut.
Good Boy Griff was disappointing next time, but it looked like a sharper test would suit, so it wasn’t surprising that there was market support for him at Uttoxeter.
However, he was far too keen and gave himself no chance to see out the race as a result, fading late on having turned into the home straight in a prominent position.
I’m hoping that will have taken at least some of the freshness out of Good Boy Griff and he can settle better today and give himself the chance to show his true ability.
The quality of his debut runs suggests he has talent and I think the market has overreacted to one run for which there is an obvious excuse. Any 16/1 or bigger appeals.

18:00 Dundalk: Salah Belle - 0.5pt Win @ 22/1
Salah Belle hasn’t been competitive in three starts this year, but I think she’s capable of better now returning to a more suitable test.
On her return from 311 days off the track at Cork, she was drawn on the wrong side and ran respectably in the circumstances to be third of that group.
She had a bad trip next time at Fairyhouse and then ran on heavy ground at the Curragh last time, despite having been taken out of a race at the same track two weeks before due to unsuitable ground when it was soft to heavy.
She’s been dropped 3lb for those runs and now faces a test that should suit her better back on the artificial surface that she won on back in December 2023 on her debut.
It may turn out that whatever kept her off the track for so long after her final run of 2024 means she isn’t quite as good as she was, but I think the market is overlooking her potential to bounce back and any 10/1 or bigger appeals.
