Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 1 Selection For Friday

Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years. 

He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most. 

Here are his tips for Friday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.

15:26 Fairyhouse: Jessbers Wish - 1.5pt Each-Way @ 15/2

The reduction in the depth to this race and the victory of Minella Marathon means that Jessbers Wish isn’t the big price that he was when this race was initially scheduled to take place, but he still looks significantly overpriced, and hopefully it will be second time lucky for the race to go ahead.

Unflinching is a very short-priced favourite, and that seems to be down to the connections and that he was a winner on debut, rather than the quality of that performance. 

It was a good performance, and I thought he won with a bit more in hand than the margin, but that wasn’t a particularly strong maiden, and he now tackles far different ground - and his action wouldn’t immediately point towards him wanting this.

Catalani is next in the market, and he’s come back to life this season after a string of poor runs at the back end of last season.

He had some good form earlier in his career, and the last two runs have been a return to that level, but the ground is also a doubt for him. 

I can understand the market support, but that has helped Jessbers Wish drift and be a far bigger price than I think he should be.

Jessbers Wish only had the one start in points last season, and it was a promising one at Liscarroll when finishing third behind Minella Marathon.

On the very long run to two out, he was shaken up to challenge that rival as they pulled away from the rest, and they jumped two out upsides, but Jessbers Wish looked a bit green and couldn’t quite sustain the effort after, fading on the run-in to finish third.

While this ground is far more testing than he faced that day, I have more confidence about him taking to it than the front pair in the market, and the way that he travelled through the race suggests Jessbers Wish can take to the sharper test too. 

I have a slight concern that his head carriage wasn’t great in the closing stages on debut, but hopefully that will turn out to be inexperience, and he can be more professional today.
