I’m expecting conditions at Exeter to be far more testing than the official ground suggests and the increased emphasis on stamina can bring Saint Anapolino more into this race than the market implies.
He progressed well over hurdles last season before finding the ground too quick on his last start of the season at Kempton.
He made one notably bad mistake that day, something that also happened on his return to action this season at Cheltenham when running respectably in the circumstances behind stablemate French Ship.
They tried Saint Anapolino in a hood last time but it looked like he switched off too much and the ground may have once again been quicker than ideal for him.
There won’t be any of those concerns today as I’m expecting it to ride at least soft and the rain forecast could take that further towards heavy.

There is the unknown over how he will take to jumping fences but while he did make mistakes over hurdles, they struck me as careless jumping errors.
Hopefully, having a larger obstacle in front of him will sharpen his mind for jumping and he has the physique to take to it.
