Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 2 Selections For Monday

The Panel are delighted to have Rhys Williams as part of our team of racing tipsters.
Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.
He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.
His profit and loss record for 2026 stands at -16.62 points from 19.5 points staked.
Here are Rhys' tips for Monday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.
13:15 Leopardstown: Riskaway - 0.5pts Each-Way @ 14/1
Riskaway was no match for Storm Heart at Limerick last time but he faces nothing of his quality today and I think the market is overlooking his chance.
He showed a good level of ability in points and bumpers before getting off the mark in taking style on his hurdling debut at Thurles.
He was strong in the closing stages that day, pulling right away with ease to win by eleven lengths from a couple of decent quality rivals in Zeus Power and Arslan.
I don’t think the very small field at Limerick last time was ideal for him and the likely stronger pace today should play more to his strengths.
It might be that he would ideally want better ground but I think he’s currently overpriced given the ability he’s shown and any double-figure prices appeal.
Rhys' Selection 1: 13:15 Leopardstown - Riskaway - 0.5pts Each-Way
15:30 Leopardstown: Monty's Star - 0.5pts Each-Way @ 50/1
Monty’s Star has been in and out over the past couple of seasons, but he has the talent to run well in this at his best and I think the market is overlooking his chance under these conditions.
He ran respectably when finishing fourth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup last season, considering the near race-ending mistake he made on the first circuit and was then badly hampered when having to swerve to avoid Ahoy Senor when that rival came down.
He was disappointing at Punchestown on his final start of last season and was well beaten in the Coral Gold Cup on his seasonal debut, but I thought he showed more encouragement last time when finishing fifth behind Affordale Fury in the Savills.
His jumping lacked fluency as the pace lifted and he looked likely to be left well behind jumping two out, but Monty’s Star rallied well to be beaten just under nine lengths.
Hopefully, that was a stepping stone back in the right direction that he can build on and start to truly fulfil the promise shown in his novice season.
The softer ground is in his favour and while his jumping and inconsistency are concerns, I think the market is underestimating him.
Any 25/1 or bigger appeals.
Rhys' Selection 2: 15:30 Leopardstown - Monty's Star - 0.5pts Each-Way
All odds correct at time of publish.
