Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 3 Selections For Saturday

The Panel are proud to announce the addition of Rhys Williams to our talented team of racing tipsters.

Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.

He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.

Here are his tips for Saturday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.

12:42 Uttoxeter: Briery Rose - 0.5pt Win @ 8/1

Briery Rose finished just behind Harmony Heights on debut in a bumper at this track, and I think she has a better chance of reversing that form on hurdling debut than the market suggests.

She was held up in a slowly run race that day and was outpaced and quite green when asked for her effort.

She rallied well late on once getting the idea of what was required to finish just half a length behind Harmony Heights in fifth.

That was a decent bumper of its type and I think Briery Rose has the potential to improve now stepping up in trip for her hurdling debut.

There is the obvious unknown over how she will jump and it’s difficult to be sure whether any horse will truly handle ground as testing as it is likely to be at Uttoxeter.

However, I think she’s overpriced given the ability she showed on debut and any 7/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 1: 12:42 Uttoxeter - Briery Rose - 0.5pt Win

16:00 Cheltenham: For A Moment - 0.5pt Win @ 33/1

The racing at Cheltenham this afternoon has the potential to turn into a simple case of a race for the outside rail and might become a bit farcical as a result, but there are a couple of horses at big prices in the bumper whose chance I think is being overlooked.

For A Moment will have to step up on the form of her second on debut in a Liscarroll maiden, but I think she has the potential to do so having been poorly positioned and looked green that day.

In a steadily run race, she was at the back of the main pack turning out of the back straight on the long run to two out and had to be bumped along as her inexperience showed.

She was still in seventh jumping two out but ran on well in the closing stages, despite showing plenty of greenness, to finish just over a length behind the winner in second.

It might be that For A Moment will show her best over obstacles and a longer trip further down the line as her physique and finishing effort that day suggests could happen.

However, if this turns into a far greater test of stamina than usual in the heavy ground, I think she could be one of those running on strongly late on past fading rivals.

It is a negative that Fern O’Brien can’t claim her usual 5lb because of this being a listed race.

Maybe this class of race is a bit too steep for For A Moment given the form of that maiden, but I think she’s a little overpriced and any 25/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 2: 16:00 Cheltenham - For A Moment - 0.5pt Win

16:00 Cheltenham: Pollyanna's Dream - 0.5pt Win @ 50/1

At an even bigger price, I think Pollyanna’s Dream can perform better than market expectations given the quality of her two bumper runs last season.

There was plenty of talk about her on course prior to her debut at Wincanton, where she looked a bit green in the home straight and couldn’t catch Tennessee Tango - who followed that with two decent runs in defeat in bumpers.

Pollyanna’s Dream followed that with another good run, this time when ridden handier at Ludlow, when beaten under two lengths by Jackie Hobbs who went on to finish ninth in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree.

The testing ground is an unknown for her and it’s a bit concerning that she’s coming into this off a break of almost a year.

I think it’s noteworthy that they are bringing her to this level of race rather than a normal bumper or going hurdling straight away this season, and the quality of those performances suggests she could be more competitive than her price suggests. Any 20/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 3: 16:00 Cheltenham - Pollyanna's Dream - 0.5pt Win
