Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 1 Selection For Saturday

13:15 Ascot: Gasmani - 0.5pts Win @ 50/1
Gasmani was well beaten when last seen but he had an interrupted season, and if they have got him right for his return to action, I think he’s overpriced in this staying novice handicap hurdle.
He was an impressive winner of a maiden point at Larkhill given how much ground he lost jumping left and for all that it was on heavy ground, I thought it was encouraging for his future that he managed to win a bumper as he didn’t strike me as the type for that sphere.
After a couple of runs over two miles in novice/maiden hurdles, Gasmani stepped up on that with a good run at Carlisle on his handicap debut over 2m4f.
His jumping wasn’t convincing in the early stages but it improved as the race went on and he ran well to be beaten just over three lengths.
He did run badly at Chepstow when last seen but it seems they had problems with him, which had kept him off the track until then and the ground would have been quicker than ideal for him.
The return to softer ground today is in Gasmani’s favour and if they have got him right, I think this is the right trip for him too.

There is a concern over him going right-handed given his tendency to jump left but it was too bad at Carlisle so hopefully it will be fine today.
There is the worry that whatever problems he’s had will mean he isn’t the horse that his early promise suggested he could be.
I think this is quite a good race for the level - but I can’t let him go unbacked at such a big price and any 25/1 or bigger appeals.
