Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 4 Selections For Thursday

The Panel are delighted to have Rhys Williams as part of our team of racing tipsters.

Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.

He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.

Here are his tips for Tuesday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.

12:20 Thurles: One And Only - 1pt Win @ 10/1

One And Only returns to chasing after a successful last season over hurdles and I think the market is underestimating his chance off a 12lb lower mark in this sphere.

He ran twice over fences in May last year over the same course and distance at Downpatrick and showed some promise on both occasions.

Following the second of them, he returned to hurdles and cheekpieces went on.

The headgear had the desired effect as he won at Cork and finished second in three handicaps after that.

He was disappointing when last seen in June, but the trip was further than ideal for him that day and the ground may have been quicker than ideal too.

Back on softer ground today and with the cheekpieces retained for his return to chasing, I think One And Only has the potential to repeat last season’s improvement over hurdles in this sphere and any 7/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 1: 12:20 Thurles - One And Only - 1pt Win

14:20 Warwick: Noble Grace - 0.5pts Each-Way @ 16/1

Noble Grace makes her hurdling debut in this mares’ novices’ hurdle and I think she can run better than her price suggests if taking to hurdling.

She ran a promising race on debut at Cheltenham at the end of last season, when the steady pace looked to play against her.

She was briefly outpaced turning into the home straight, but rallied well under pressure to only be beaten a neck in second.

The two mares who finished immediately behind her ran respectably on their hurdling debuts earlier this month.

I think Noble Grace has the potential for more improvement than them now that she faces a greater test of stamina.

There is the obvious unknown over how she will jump on hurdling debut, but I think the market is overlooking her chance. Any 12/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 2: 14:20 Warwick - Noble Grace - 0.5pts Each-Way

14:20 Warwick: Star Of Honour - 1pt Each-Way @ 25/1

At a bigger price in the same race, I think Star Of Honour could run well on her first start under rules.

She started her career in Irish points and showed promise on both starts, most notably the second of them, when finishing fourth behind three mares who are now rated in the 120s over hurdles.

Having been bought after that run, she was sent to Alan Hill to run in British points last season, and she bolted up in the first of them at Chipley Park despite clearly wanting to go the other way round.

She was duly switched to a left-handed track for her last start at Guilsborough and showed a very good attitude to hold off the challenge of Fame And Concrete, while pulling a long way clear of the rest.

With the potential for her to be a bit keen on her return to action after 256 days off, I think this trip could suit Star Of Honour and the market seems to have overlooked the quality of her best performance in points. Any 14/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 3: 14:20 Warwick - Star Of Honour - 1pt Each-Way

18:45 Newcastle: Sir Maxi - 0.5pt Win @ 20/1

It’s no surprise that there has been early market support for Goldmoyne on his first start for James Owen, but one of his rivals at a big price looks to be overpriced.

Sir Maxi put together a collection of good runs on artificial surfaces in late 2024/early 2025 including a victory at this track and in defeat over this course and distance.

His form dipped back on the turf and he looked tricky at various times, but it might be that he was just in need of a break, having been on to the go throughout the winter so he could be ready to spring back to life after a 99-day break.

The blinkers that seemed to have a positive impact on him on the all weather earlier this year are back on too, and this race is likely to be run at a good pace which is suitable for him.

There is a concern over his slow starting and being drawn in stall one may not be ideal, but I think he’s overpriced and any 14/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 4: 18:45 Newcastle - Sir Maxi - 0.5pt Win
