Tom Lee's Panel Tips For Saturday, April 12

Wigan Vs Wrexham, Saturday, 12.30pm

For 18 second half minutes on Tuesday evening it looked like Wigan were on the way to achieving a rare win. Dale Taylor's 51st minute penalty had given them the advantage at Exeter City's St James Park.

However, a 69th minute equaliser from Reece Cole meant they had to share the spoils, in a game where the home team bossed it with a hefty 10 shots and 63% possession.

That means 'The Mudhutters' as they're sometimes known, have won only one of their last eight matches, are winless in their last five, and have triumphed in only four of their 18 league games played in 2025.

Notoriously infrequent scorers under the guidance of scouser Ryan Lowe, the former Plymouth and Preston boss has seen his troops hit the net with a distinct lack of regularity.

So much so the former striker has been pictured wearing his boots on the training pitch, trying to coach his side's shot-shy forwards on how to locate the onion bag.

It didn't seem to have helped in last Saturday's sterile 0-0 away to Leyton Orient, a game in which his men mustered just one effort in the entire game, which is why they have scored just 35 goals all season, the worst in League One.

In fairness, Lowe's low scorers do boast the best defensive recorded outside the top five, conceding just 39 in the 40 games so far.

Whether or not that's enough to protect them on Saturday lunchtime when promotion-chasers Wrexham come calling is another matter.

However, 'The Town' sense automatic promotion to the Championship is within their grasp if they can keep resurgent Wycombe at bay.

Wrexham have already watched Birmingham City seal one of those coveted automatic spots, and it has to be said the Welsh side are overwhelming favourites to bag the second.

Three points ahead of third-placed Wycombe with five games to go, their run-in is favourable.

If they can win at Wigan, then three wins from four against any of remaining rivals Bristol Rovers, Blackpool, Charlton Athletic or Lincoln City should seal the deal.

With four wins and a draw, their recent form has been excellent. Their direct brand of 'lump it over the top' football may not be pretty, but it's effective at this level.

Fully motivated by their quest for Championship status, I strongly fancy Wrexham to go to Wigan and do a job at odds of 5/4 on betting apps.

Harrogate Vs Grimsby, Saturday, 3pm

Elsewhere, on what has the scope to be a massive day at both ends of League Two, I like the look of Grimsby bagging their 11th road win of the season as they travel to take on strugglers Harrogate Town.

The Mariners' list of away day victims is extensive, claiming maximum points at the likes of high-flying Wimbledon, Doncaster and Walsall.

David Artell's side will be bristling with intent given they currently sit in seventh, the final play-off place, three points clear of closest pursuers Colchester with only five fixtures to play.

Harrogate are not safe yet, but their goals tally of 33 is the lowest in the entire division, and the form book tells us Grimsby had their measure as recently as December.

Back the away day specialists Grimsby at as big as 11/10 on football betting sites.

Tom's weekend double on Wrexham and Grimsby to win pays out around 4/1 with BetMGM.
