Rhys Williams' Daily Horse Racing Tips: 1 Selection For Thursday

Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.
He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.

12:58 Huntingdon: The Den Master - 0.5pts Each-Way @ 66/1
The Den Master didn’t win in two starts in British points, but he showed promise and I think he could run better on his rules debut over this sharper test than his big price suggests.
He made the running on his debut in a 2m4f maiden at Buckfastleigh and travelled strongly out in front.
He looked to be going best turning out of the back straight but a mistake two out halted his momentum a little and he didn’t find as much as looked likely, fading away late on to finish fourth.
The winner and third have both won novice hurdles this season to give that race a strong look.
The Den Master was sent off odds-on favourite for his seasonal return at Garthorpe and once again he travelled strongly in front for much of the race.
However, he ran wide off the tight final bend and, as at Buckfastleigh, he didn’t find too much in the closing stages and dropped away to finish third.
While that seemed a disappointing run, the winner won a bumper next time so it wasn’t as bad as it appeared at the time.
It is concerning that The Den Master hasn’t found much under pressure in either start and he looked quite awkward in the closing stages last time, but I think the drop back to two miles on a sharp track for his rules debut will suit him.
The way that he travelled in both races suggests he has a good level of ability and while I expect his full ability may come out over fences over this trip in the long term, I think he has the potential to run better than his big price suggests.
