Michigan’s ‘Don't Regret the Bet’ Campaign Secured $3 Million in Funding for 2023

The Michigan Gaming Control Board proudly reported on its social media channels a successful first year for its ‘Don't’ Regret the Bet’ program, which aims to promote responsible gambling at Michigan online casinos via various marketing campaigns in the Great Lakes State.

The regulatory agency was happy to report that their responsible gambling initiative has secured $3 million in funding from the state budget for 2024 projects. Not forgetting to mention multiple awards earned in 2023, including the Platinum dotCOMM Award for the best integrated marketing campaign.

The newly allocated funds will come in handy for preparing fresh content, such as commercials, video animations, website updates, and social media ads. The ‘Don't Regret the Bet’ campaign's goal for the upcoming year is to expand the coverage in Michigan and continue the commitment towards impactful responsible gaming advocacy.

Award-Winning Responsible Gambling Program  

The statewide multi-media campaign ‘Don’t Regret the Bet’ launched in March as an attempt of the Michigan Gaming Control Board to encourage residents of the state to wager responsibly. The partner for the development of the campaign is public relations firm King Media, and the favored approach is aggressive media advertising via local TV and radio stations, plus social media presence.

Although the initiative has been active for less than a year, it has earned multiple awards, such as the 2023 Platinum Viddy Award in August and the Platinum dotCOMM Award in September. The back-to-back awards for best Digital Marketing Campaign earned in international competitions indicate that the MGCB took a creative approach to inspiring awareness about a serious issue.

Both of them award honor excellence in video and digital communication, plus web creativity. There were 2,500 entries submitted from 17 countries for the Viddy Award and an equal number of entries for the Platinum dotCOMM Award but from 33 countries.

MGCB executives have voiced their appreciation of the collaboration between King Media and the agency, working together to formulate strategies to ensure player's well-being in a dynamic iGaming industry.

The MGCB Received $50 Million for 2024

The Michigan Gaming Control Board will start 2024 with $50.7 million allocated by the state legislature. Included in the $50 million package are $4.2 million in additional funds for the 2024 fiscal year.

The extra funds are subdivided into $2.2 million to cover expenses for 16 full-time staff positions that will support new programs and $2 million for the establishment of an integrated receivable system within the current agency’s database and the state’s financial system, SIGMA. For the first time since the founding of the MGCB, board members will be compensated for attending meetings, something they did voluntarily for the past three years. The state has allocated $63,000 for the board members.

The MGCB will continue investing in the DontRegretTheBet.org website, providing self-assessment tools and additional resources for responsible gambling with personal funds and Michigan online casino bonus. After Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the new Michigan budget into law, the promised $3 million by the state legislature has become a reality and will bolster the responsible gambling campaigns in 2024.
