We’ve listed Iowa’s top online betting sites to help bettors select the ones that work best for them. We never recommend betting at offshore-based sites, as they often violate state and federal laws and operate without effective regulation or oversight.

Fanatics' most significant strength is its FanCash loyalty program. Few sportsbooks offer rewards with this kind of real-world value, and in Iowa, it stands out immediately.

The app’s interface is one of the cleanest in the business. Personalized trending bets, stat-backed recommendations, and a “for you” style homepage help users find bets quickly. Live betting is a core feature for Fanatics Iowa; the live game tracker is excellent, showing win probabilities, head-to-head analytics, and even public betting trends. Sporttrade brings something radically different to Iowa’s betting landscape: a true sports betting exchange. Instead of betting only against the house, Iowa bettors can buy and sell positions against other players, just like trading stocks.

The most significant advantage for Iowans is pricing efficiency. Because prices are influenced by supply, demand, and traders, bettors often see spreads closer to -105 rather than the standard -110, creating long-term savings for mathematically minded players. For bettors who line shop or want value over volume, Sporttrade offers some of the best pricing in the industry.

Live betting is where Sporttrade truly excels, since odds update extremely fast. The exchange format allows players to buy and sell positions instantly during a game, enabling them to react as momentum shifts.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Sharper pricing than most traditional Iowa sportsbooks
  • Outstanding live betting experience
  • Multiple responsive customer support channels
  • Unique LiquiBoost feature for enhanced high-roller pricing
Cons
  • Very limited promos and no ongoing rewards program
  • Fewer sports and markets than major sportsbooks
  • No live streaming
  • No desktop betting interface and not available on Android

What IA App Users are Saying

  • "Overall, my experience with Sporttrade has been very positive thus far. It’s truly a unique sportsbook where one can trade wagers as one would a stock, being able to both buy and sell in part or whole. As for the app, I found it to be smooth, well laid out, and user friendly…"

Iowa legalized sports betting in May 2019. Both retail and online sports betting began in August 2019.

Iowa Sports Betting Laws & Legislation

Senate Bill 617 legalized online and retail sports betting in Iowa in May 2019. By August of that year, online sportsbooks were accepting wagers.

At first, bettors were required to register for an online betting account in person at an Iowa casino. However, that restriction ended at the beginning of 2021. Bettors are still not allowed to use credit cards to fund their sports betting accounts.

Online sportsbooks must partner with one of Iowa's land-based casinos to operate. Each of the state's retail casinos can partner with up to three mobile sportsbook brands.
