West Virginia Betting Laws & Legislation
West Virginia was the fifth state in the US to legalize sports betting and the third to allow legal online sports betting. West Virginia lawmakers approved online and retail sports betting in 2018, and the first land-based sportsbook began operating in August of that year.
Online sports betting in West Virginia began in December 2018, followed by the ability to play at a WV online casinos in 2020. Since sports betting began in 2018, West Virginia has handled more than $369 million in sports bets.
West Virginia allows each of its licensed casinos to have up to 3 online partners. The West Virginia Lottery oversees licensing and regulation through its lottery commission.
Bettors must be at least 21 years old, and all sports wagers must be placed within the state of West Virginia.
