We found plenty of odds boosts available for the most popular events, and they were easy to use thanks to DraftKings’ intuitive UI.
The number of statistics and information presented to bettors on the DraftKings Michigan app is exceptional compared to other Michigan sportsbook apps we tested. Using the app is also the only way to access DraftKings’ live streaming of international soccer, basketball, tennis, and other sports.
While customer service and odds value can lag behind competitors, Michigan bettors still get a top-tier platform backed by fast payouts, an intuitive design, and one of the best all-around rewards systems in the state.

BetRivers offers one of the most comprehensive betting experiences, featuring deep markets, competitive odds, robust live betting tools, and an excellent iRush Rewards program. BetRivers offers exclusive betting tools not available on other Michigan sportsbook apps. Our favorites are the game-by-game statistics for each matchup, along with alternate lines for spread betting and totals bets.
BetRivers has one of the most enticing bonus bet offers for new users in Michigan, too. BetRivers’ second-chance bonus bet amount varies by state, and Michigan has the highest bet insurance available at $500.
However, its dated design, inconsistent app performance, and occasional withdrawal complaints hold it back from ranking higher on our list. Still, with frequent promos, loyalty rewards program, low playthrough requirements, fast withdrawal times, and robust customer support, it remains a dependable choice for serious bettors who value options and loyalty perks over aesthetics.

Michigan legalized sports betting in December 2019 when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the Lawful Sports Betting Act. The Michigan Gaming Control & Revenue Act of 1996 established the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) and granted it the authority to license, regulate, and control casino operations. The Sports Betting Act expanded the MGCB's purview to include Michigan sports betting sites and Michigan online casinos.
Retail sportsbooks opened in Michigan in 2020, and the first online Michigan sportsbooks launched in January 2021. The MGCB maintains local offices inside Detroit's three licensed casinos: the MGM Grand, MotorCity Detroit, and the Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
Compared to other surrounding states, college betting rules are relaxed. You may bet on any college sports event where all participating players are at least 18 years old.
To be licensed in Michigan, sportsbooks must partner with a land-based casino in the state. The number of licensed sportsbooks in Michigan can reach 15.
Each master licensee is permitted to operate one online sportsbook and one online casino. The state's 12 federally recognized tribes were each issued a master license, and each of the three Detroit commercial casinos (MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown) also received one.
Michigan supplier licenses are non-transferable; they are issued only after a provider applies and is deemed trustworthy by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. Under Michigan law, each operator must pay a $100,000 license fee. There is also an initial application fee of $50,000 and a yearly operating fee of $50,000.
Under Michigan law, all sports betting winnings are subject to taxes. Michigan imposes a 4.25% tax on sports betting winnings, which is automatically collected upon payout.
The federal government also taxes winnings from sports betting. The rate depends on your overall income. Generally, winnings of $600 or more are taxed at 24%.
You'll only be taxed on your profits, not your stake or any promotions you claim.

You can bet on all of the major U.S. professional sports, such as the NHL, NFL, NBA, and MLB games, and on sports from around the world:
The Detroit Lions are Michigan's hometown NFL team. Despite being one of the few NFL franchises never to win a Super Bowl, the Lions have a devoted fan base.
The three-time NBA champion Detroit Pistons play at Little Caesars Arena in midtown Detroit. Although they struggled in the last few years, the Pistons dominated the NBA in the late 1980s and early 2000s, winning the NBA Finals in 1989, 1990, and 2004.
The Detroit Tigers are one of the most historic teams in baseball: They've played in the same city with the same name since 1901, the longest such team in the American League.
Founded in 1926, the Detroit Red Wings are one of the six founding franchises in the National Hockey League. They have 11 Stanley Cup wins all-time, which ranks them third among NHL franchises.
Michigan is home to one major NASCAR racetrack, the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI—roughly 80 miles from the Motor City. The MIS hosts the FireKeepers Casino 400 every year in August. Michigan is also home to the Detroit Golf Club, which has hosted the Rocket Mortgage Classic since 2019. Past winners have included Bryson DeChambeau and Rickie Fowler.
Sports betting takes some skill, but it is still gambling. No matter where you decide to bet, don’t wager more than you can afford. This should be healthy entertainment, but for some people, it can turn into problem gambling.
Keep an eye on your budget, and you will know if you are moving outside your comfort zone.
You should always bet with licensed online sports betting sites in Michigan. Legal sites provide a secure environment for sports wagering. Your funds are safe, not routed through offshore banks, and you have legal redress if anything goes wrong. Even better, you have a state regulator on your side who is easy to contact.
If unsure whether a site is licensed, look for the MGCB logo on the screen or read our reviews.
The Michigan state government and licensed Michigan operators are committed to promoting responsible gambling. You will find guidance on problem gambling on every Michigan-licensed sports betting site. Information is available to help identify potential problems and to provide links to support resources.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board launched a "Don't Regret the Bet" campaign to provide helpful resources that promote responsible gambling and keep the experience fun. You can take quizzes about gambling facts, take self-assessments to determine your risk level, and learn about signs of problem gambling.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) operates a 24-hour free helpline at 1-800-270-7117. The line is manned by trained counselors who will give you appropriate advice—whether you are calling for yourself, a friend, or a family member.
If you feel that your gambling is getting out of hand, you can add yourself to the Michigan self-exclusion list, which will disallow you from betting in the state. Each of our recommended sites above also has its self-exclusion list.
You can set limits on deposits, individual bets, and time spent within each sportsbook. Some sites offer tools to track your spending habits.
Some offers require a specific code to claim them. To activate, enter a code. Others only require you to opt into the offer and don't require a unique code to activate.
Michigan's minimum age limit for sports betting bonuses is 21. This is the legal age for all online or in-person betting activities.
When signing up for online sites, you’ll need to enable location services to prove that you’re located in Michigan.
Numerous sports are available for betting in Michigan, including favorites such as NFL football, college football, college basketball, NBA basketball, domestic and international soccer, MLB baseball, NASCAR, and NHL hockey.
There are no restrictions on college sports betting in Michigan. That includes player props, in-state team futures, and game odds.
