Missouri Sports Bettors Can Set Up Online Accounts On Nov. 17

Beginning at 12 a.m. on Monday, sports-betting operators with temporary licenses can allow patrons to open and fund accounts, according to the Missouri Gaming Commission.

If those sports-betting companies have temporary licenses, they can allow patrons to set up online accounts on Nov. 17, two weeks before the legal launch of sports betting at 12 a.m. on Dec. 1, the commission said.

These developments move Missouri one step closer to becoming the 39th state with legal wagering. Every state bordering Missouri, except Oklahoma, already allows legal sports betting. On Dec. 1 in Missouri, bettors at least 21 years old will be able to legally bet in person at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks or with the use of a cellphone or computer anywhere in the state.

In August, the commission granted two companies—DraftKings and Circa—the right to offer "untethered" apps to sports bettors when wagering is legal. With that "untethered" approval, DraftKings and Circa won’t have to partner with a brick-and-mortar casino or a professional sports team to make their apps available. Other sports-betting companies must partner with a casino or sports team. Formal applications were due on Sept. 12 for companies seeking to begin operating when legal wagering goes live on Dec. 1.

On October 22, the commission issued the first temporary retail and mobile sports-betting licenses to operators and suppliers, ahead of the December 1 launch of legal sports betting statewide. In addition to DraftKings and Circa, temporary licenses have been issued to FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and other major sports-betting operators. Bettors are advised to check the commission website for updates regarding which operators have temporary licenses.
