NJ Hits DraftKings, Rush Street Interactive With Fines Amid Infractions

DraftKings Sportsbook and Rush Street Interactive were issued fines in New Jersey at the end of October 2023 for reasons including self-excluded players creating accounts and unapproved events. All NJ online casinos, as well as sportsbook operators must ensure that self-excluded players have no access to their platforms, once they're excluded.
DraftKings and Rush Street were Fined $9,500 Combined
David Rebuck, the Director of the Division of Gaming Enforcement in New Jersey, issued the fine. DraftKings was hit with a $7,500 fine, while Rush Street incurred a $2,000 fine.
As for Rush Street Interactive, the $2,000 fine stemmed from events held in March 2020, April 2020, January 2021, July 2021, and September 2023. These events didn’t comply with the Division of Gaming Enforcement rules.
Reasons Why Operators Were Fined in New Jersey
For DraftKings, the fine involved a self-excluded player gaining the ability to create a new account and place wagers. The fine was issued on October 24.
The issue for Rush Street was the lounge space. According to the regulations, the lounge must have “sufficient square footage to promote optimum security of the facility.”
Rush Street didn’t have full security and surveillance equipment. Before events take place, the regulatory body must approve them. Additionally, Rush Street accepted pre-match wagers on games that had already started.
This comes as five other casinos in Atlantic City lost out on about $77,000 after underage gamblers and self-excluded players placed bets. The money was seized from the underage and self-excluded players.
The $77,000 will not be used to help compulsive gambling and disabled citizens and seniors. From the $77,000, Resorts lost out on $51,000.
These casinos and gaming platforms lost out on or were hit with fines in a combined amount of $86,500.
