Best Bets For Cheltenham: The Panel's Selections For Trials Day

There will be festival clues abound at Cheltenham on Saturday, with some big names set to appear on trials day.

It is likely to be the final time we see the likes of Constitution Hill on the track before the festival, as trainers continue their final preparations for the showpiece in March.

Five Grade Two races will go to post, and there are also competitive handicap races on offer.

The Panel has studied the form and come up with the three best bets for Cheltenham trials day.

12:40 Cheltenham: Resplendent Grey 1pt Win

The first race of the day is a tricky one to decipher.

There are plenty with chances, but Resplendent Grey sticks out as a good choice, despite finishing second in his previous two races.

Trained by the in-form Olly Murphy, his jumping was sketchy last time at Sandown, but he stayed on well to the line.

He is an out-and-out stayer, so a strong gallop over this trip should see him at his best if his jumping holds up.

Jagwar is a worthy favourite with betting apps despite throwing away his race last time, but his previous form makes him the one to beat.

15:35 Cheltenham: Monmiral 0.5pts Each Way

Crambo is favourite with betting sites for the Cleeve Hurdle, but he is worth taking on with a much bigger-priced runner.

Monmiral, trained by Paul Nicholls and part-owned by Alex Ferguson, was a good winner of the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle at the festival last year.

That was the first time he was fitted with blinkers and the headgear has made a big difference.

He has a bit to find with Strong Leader from their clash in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury, but he is worth a bet to reverse the form at this track.

16:10 Cheltenham: Potters Charm 1pt Win

Unbeaten in his five racecourse starts, Potters Charm is unlikely to taste defeat here.

He registered his first Grade One win at Aintree over Christmas, a race that was much tougher than this.

Nigel Twiston-Davies' stable star looks to be head and shoulders above his rivals and this should be a great prep for the Turners Novices' Hurdle at the Festival.

Bill Joyce is a likeable sort who is going the right way, and he looks like the only one who could lay a hand on the selection.

Elsewhere On Cheltenham Trials Day

Constitution Hill is the main attraction on trials day. The unbeaten superstar missed last year's festival, so connections will be hoping he comes through the race unscathed.

His main rival, Lossiemouth, will not be lining up, which makes the task even easier for the 2023 Champion Hurdle.

Triumph Hurdle second favourite East India Dock will also in be in action earlier in the day. Unbeaten in two starts, James Owens' juvenile will be hoping to retain his perfect record.

We will also get to see Gold Cup hopeful L'Homme Presse, who is a strong favourite for the Cotswold Chase. Irish raider, Gentlemansgame is likely to be his main rival in the Grade Two contest.
