Rhys Williams' Racing Tips: 2 Selections For Thursday

Horse racing expert Rhys Williams is sharing his best selections for today's racing.

Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair, where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.

He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.

Rhys' tips have returned 332.12 points from 194.5 points staked, meaning his profit and loss record stands at a whopping +137.62pts overall - thanks to a sensational recent spell that included Lamar Canyon's win at 150/1 recently.

Here are Rhys' tips for today, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.

17:30 Leopardstown: Lily Bear - 1.5pt Win @ 14/1

Lily Bear makes her debut in the opening race at Leopardstown, but she’s already shown ability in a barrier trial and looks overpriced on that evidence.

She was slowly into stride in that barrier trial at Naas, but soon recovered to track the leaders and she travelled strongly in behind but couldn’t get a clear run for a long time in the home straight.

Angled out with a furlong to go, she bumped one of her rivals before easing upsides Cashel Queen and wasn’t asked for any effort while being on the wrong side of a head bob for the trial victory.

Cashel Queen was ridden far stronger than Lily Bear to take the win in that trial, yet she heads the market while Lily Bear is a double-figure price.

Lily Bear wore a hood that day, so it’s no concern that one is on today.

That suggests she might be quite highly strung, so that she’s had the experience of everything that a barrier trial brings is a positive going into her debut as she showed she can handle that.

The ground will be different today to what she raced on at Naas, but the way that she travelled through that trial was taking and this may not be an overly deep maiden.

Any 8/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 1: 17:30 Leopardstown: Lily Bear - 1.5pt Win

19:22 Catterick: Enjoy The Night - 0.5pt Win @ 17/2

There has been some early market support for Enjoy The Night, but I think he’s still a little overpriced as he makes his seasonal debut in this sprint handicap.

He looked a horse with ability last season, but his temperament wasn’t allowing that ability to come out in the results with him often racing too keenly to show his best.

That was the case on his nursery debut at Thirsk, where he raced far too keenly without any cover in the first half of the race and he looked awkward under pressure.

Enjoy The Night has been gelded since then, and I’m hoping that will result in him putting in a far more professional performance on his first start as a three-year-old.

The stable switch is of no concern and depending on just how much rain arrives at Catterick, being drawn furthest from the far rail might not be an issue and he could even end up being on the best ground.

There is the concern that he might still race too keenly to show his best, particularly given that it’s his first start of the season.

However, this is quite a bit weaker than any of the races he’s contested so far, and I think the market is underestimating his chance.

Any 7/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 2: 19:22 Catterick: Enjoy The Night - 0.5pt Win
