Indiana players have three weeks before a statewide ban on sweepstakes casinos takes effect. House Bill 1052, signed by Governor Mike Braun earlier this year, closes the dual-currency loophole that allowed sweepstakes platforms to operate in the state, and makes Indiana among the strictest states in the country on the issue.

When Does the Ban Take Effect?

The ban becomes enforceable on July 1, 2026. From that date, operating a dual-currency sweepstakes casino accessible to Indiana residents will be illegal under state law.

Which Platforms Are Restricting Access?

Multiple sweepstakes operators have begun geofencing Indiana ahead of the deadline rather than waiting for enforcement to begin. Players in the state have reported being locked out of accounts on several major platforms, including those using standard Gold Coin and Sweeps Cash models.

If you have an active balance on any sweepstakes platform, you should log in and check your redemption status now. Most platforms are giving players a window to redeem outstanding Sweeps Cash before access is cut off entirely. After July 1, those windows may close permanently.

Alternative Gaming Sites for Indiana Players

Indiana does not currently have legal real-money online casinos, so there is no licensed iGaming alternative available within the state. Your realistic options as a player are:

  • Real-money sportsbooks: Indiana has a competitive legal sports betting market with FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and others fully operational. If your interest leans toward sports, this remains fully available.
  • Indiana social casinos (no-purchase-necessary): Social casino apps that do not use a dual-currency model and do not offer redemptions may continue to operate legally, though players should check each platform's specific terms.
  • Travel: If you are near the border with Illinois, Michigan, or Ohio, all of which still permit sweepstakes casinos, you may be able to play while physically located there.

Why Did Indiana Ban Sweeps Casinos?

The Indiana ban follows pressure from the state's licensed gaming industry, which argued that sweepstakes casinos were competing for the same customers without paying the same taxes or meeting the same regulatory requirements. Indiana's tribal and commercial casino interests were significant backers of the legislation.

Indiana joins a growing list of states that have enacted bans in 2026, alongside California, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. House Bill 1052 passed both chambers with broad bipartisan support before Governor Braun signed it into law earlier this year.
