Rhys Williams' Racing Tips: 5 Selections For Tuesday

Horse racing expert Rhys Williams is sharing his best selections for today's racing.

Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.

He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.

Thanks to his recent 5/1 winners and Thursday's 6/1 success, Rhys' tips have returned 119.43 points from 103.5 points staked, meaning his profit and loss record stands at 15.93pts overall.

Here are Rhys' tips for Tuesday, using the most up-to-date odds from the best horse racing betting sites.

15:35 Newmarket: Rosario - 1pt Each-Way @ 6/1

It might be that Rosario will continue to get in his own way with slow starting, but I think this race could set up well for him as long as he doesn’t lose too much ground at the start.

Being drawn on the ‘wrong’ side, blindfold issues and slow starting of his own causing were aplenty last season for Rosario while frequently promising that he was capable of improvement.

Even on his final start at Southwell, although he was better away from the stalls than had been the case at times through the season, he was then faced with an unsuitably steady early pace.

I thought he did well in the circumstances to only be beaten a length by Sturlasson who reopposes today.

This race is likely to set up much better for Rosario with quite a few who will want to try to make the early running - and the combination of a strong pace and a stiff finish at this trip looks ideal for him.

Although it does mean he will need luck in running, being drawn against the near rail is another positive for his chance - if he can get the breaks.

And while there is the regular concern over him missing the break, I think he’s overpriced and any 5/1 or bigger appeals.

16:17 Newton Abbot: Lightonthewing - 1pt Win @ 8/1

The light rain that has been falling at Newton Abbot this morning and the further forecast rain for later is a positive for Lightonthewing’s chance in this staying handicap hurdle and I think the market is underestimating his chance.

He ran very well on his last start over hurdles at Chepstow behind Face d’Music and ahead of subsequent winner Walkinthepresent.

Lightonthewing has since run creditably in a couple of starts over fences and now returns to hurdling in a race, where he should be favourably positioned either controlling the pace or close up to Striking A Pose.

Although he’s the oldest in the field, he’s still showing that he’s got plenty of spark left in him and he looks overpriced in a race of this quality.

Any 11/2 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 2: 16:17 Newton Abbot: Lightonthewing - 1pt Win

17:05 Market Rasen: All The Glory - 1pt Win @ 12/1

All The Glory finished behind Jasmine Bliss at Huntingdon earlier in the season, but I think the market is underestimating her chance of being able to reverse that form today.

They were racing off level weights that day and All The Glory always seemed to be a little on the back foot, with some cautious jumping not helping her chance, and I think the ground may have been softer than ideal for her too.

Given that, I thought she ran creditably as was the case on her previous start at Wincanton, when finishing a length behind Bluey - who she now faces on 6lb better terms.

Although All The Glory has won on soft ground, I think this better ground is more suitable for her, so I’m hopeful she can take a step forward for that and the likely good pace will help this late closer’s cause too.

There is a worry that her jumping may let her down, but this is far easier company than she faced last time and I think her chance is being overlooked.

Any 15/2 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 3: 17:05 Market Rasen - All The Glory - 1pt Win

18:42 Clonmel: Goldinthemountains - 0.5pt Win @ 11/2

Goldinthemountains was in much deeper company than this for his chasing debut and I think he has a good chance of getting off the mark in this sphere in this beginners chase.

That chasing debut was at Punchestown in November and he took on Kitzbuhel for the lead from the off.

Goldinthemountains went into the lead on his own at the end of the back straight before being headed at three out and he dropped away to finish sixth.

That was a tough race for his chasing debut and I thought Goldinthemountains ran an encouraging race, particularly with how well he jumped.

There are three rivals ahead of him in the market but there are doubts over all of them.

Pinot Gris ran poorly on his only start over fences, this trip could be on the sharp side for Son Of Anarchy and there’s not much of Royal Hollow who makes her chasing debut.

While the price of Goldinthemountains has shortened quite a bit in the early market, I thought he was initially put in at a ridiculous price and his current price still looks on the high side. Any 5/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 4: 18:42 Clonmel - Goldinthemountains - 0.5pt Win

19:42 Clonmel: Isdistheone - 0.5pt Win @ 40/1

This looks quite a strong mares bumper and it could be that it’s too deep for Isdistheone, but I think she’s overpriced now back in a bumper and with David Doyle in the saddle.

She showed promising signs when third in a bumper at this track behind Panjandrum, before the inexperience of the rider showed when she finished fourth at Tramore.

Doyle was in the saddle for the first time at Leopardstown, when running over the same trip that she races over today.

She ran very well to finish six lengths behind Barnahash Mason, who has won over hurdles since while the third is now rated 136 over hurdles - and the fourth is odds-on for the opening maiden hurdle today.

Isdistheone has only contested one bumper since, which was at Cork where she was given a lot to do by her inexperienced rider and could only finish seventh.

Having Doyle back in the saddle is a positive for her chance, as is the return to a longer trip - and I think that combination gives her a better chance of getting off the mark than her price suggests. Any 16/1 or bigger appeals.

Rhys' Selection 5: 19:42 Clonmel - Isdistheone - 0.5pt Win
