Rhys Williams' Racing Tips: 3 Selections For Wednesday
Horse racing expert Rhys Williams is sharing his best selections for today's racing.
Rhys has been a racing analyst for over 10 years, working for At The Races and most recently as a tipster for Betfair where his tipping column had a 31% ROI over four and a half years.
He often focuses away from the front end of the market, finding angles that aren't evident to most.
Rhys' tips have returned 234.53 points from 149.5 points staked, meaning his profit and loss record stands at +85.03pts overall - thanks to a sensational recent spell that includes a 33/1 and a trio of 28/1 winning selections last week.

14:33 Perth: Garde Des Champs - 0.5pt Win @ 18/1
This race is likely to be very strongly run with five of the seven potentially wanting to make the running or at least be very handy.
I’m hoping that will set the race up for Garde Des Champs, and I think he can run better than his price suggests.
He was well beaten last time at Kelso, but that was his first start for 177 days and he looked a bit ring rusty.
Earlier in the season, he won over this course and distance off a 1lb lower mark, and followed that up with further good runs - including when beaten just under 10 lengths by Malystic in a stronger contest than this.
There is a concern that he might need a change in headgear to sharpen him up now, and his jumping doesn’t always hold up.
However, if they do go very quick up front as anticipated, I think he has the potential to run well and any 12/1 or bigger appeals.
Rhys' Selection 1: 14:33 Perth: Garde Des Champs - 0.5pt Win
16:40 York: Daydreama - 0.5pts Each-Way @ 25/1
It’s no surprise that so much early market support has come for The Resdev Scholar, but I think he’s reached about the right price now - whereas a runner from another Easterby family member looks overpriced.
Daydreama has run well on both previous starts at this track, and I think he has a better chance of making it third time lucky than the market suggests.
He was unlucky to not finish closer when seventh on his first start in a nursery, and then finished a close third in a valuable final - despite stumbling at the start and having to wait briefly for a clear run when Advertised made his challenge around him.
While Daydreama finished last on his seasonal debut at Pontefract, he got no run on the far rail, having been held up and his jockey was easy on him once his chance had gone - so a 2lb drop for that looks a bit generous.
I think the return to this track in a race that is likely to be strongly run is ideal for him.
He’s well drawn, with the near side likely to be the best place to be in the straight, judging by the going stick.
Any 16/1 or bigger appeals.
Rhys' Selection 2: 16:40 York: Daydreama - 0.5pts Each-Way
17:03 Yarmouth: U S S Charleston - 1pt Win @ 7/1
There could be a battle for the lead in this five furlong sprint, and I’m hopeful that will set the race up for U S S Charleston to make a strong late challenge on his return to the turf.
He ran an eye-catching race at Wolverhampton two starts ago, when dropped out the back of the field before finishing strongly to take third.
His latest run at Lingfield wasn’t so good but he raced wide towards the back of the field and was a little tight for room turning the final bend.
Given his running style, I think the return to a straight five furlongs on turf could be more suitable for him than the turning five furlongs on the all-weather and he looks capable of taking another step forward.
Any 5/1 or bigger appeals.
Rhys' Selection 3: 17:03 Yarmouth: U S S Charleston - 1pt Win
Lockinge Stakes
(Newbury, Saturday 14:35):
Sahlan - 1pt Each-Way @ 14/1
Sahlan finished behind Notable Speech and The Lion In Winter when last seen at the Breeders Cup, but I think he has the potential to reverse that form in the Lockinge on Saturday.
He got a bit upset in the stalls at Del Mar and didn’t look at all suited by the track, being shuffled back around the final turn before running on to finish fifth while carrying his tail awkwardly.
Prior to that, he put up an excellent performance when winning the Moulin at Longchamp, holding off the late challenge of Rosallion and finishing ahead of The Lion In Winter.
Given his gradual improvement last season, I’m hopeful that there will be more to come from Sahlan, and I think this straight mile will be a far more suitable test for him than Del Mar.
There is the slight concern that he doesn’t have the benefit of a recent run that others do, but I think the market is overlooking his chance and any double-figure prices appeal.
