Third Ashes Test Odds: Labuschagne 4/1 With BoyleSports For Top Adelaide Scorer

England are already drinking in the last-chance saloon as they head to Adelaide for Tuesday’s Third Ashes Test.

Ben Stokes and his battered troops succumbed to another heavy defeat at The Gabba to go 2-0 down and are now 16/1 to win the five-match series with BoyleSports, which is offering new customers £30 in free bets plus a £10 casino bonus when they bet £10.

England have lost the last three Ashes Tests at the Adelaide Oval and are priced at 5/2 to end that miserable run next week.

The Aussies are 4/11 to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, while a draw can be backed at 12/1.

Bearing in mind the first two Tests lasted just three days, a share of the spoils may not be the best option, although the 1986 and 1991 matches went the full five days.

Since then, though, Australia have won six of the last seven Tests on this ground, with England’s sole victory coming in 2010/11 when Kevin Pietersen’s 227 helped the tourists secure an innings and 71-run victory.

Whitewash Worries For England

England have lost the last two series 4-0 in Australia and are 5/1 to go down by that scoreline again, but could it be even more humiliating for the tourists?

In 2013/14, England suffered a whitewash when Mitchell Johnson tore through the batting with 37 wickets at an average of 13.97 to be crowned player of the series.

England to lose 5-0 once again is now just 6/4 with BoyleSports.

In our Second Test preview, the same bookmaker was offering 7/5 on either a 4-0 or 5-0 victory for the Aussies, but those odds have now been cut to 4/5.

Who Will Be Top Run Scorer In Third Ashes Test?

Steve Smith has the second highest average of the series (51.5) and is the 11/4 favourite to be the top Australian batter in the first innings.

Smith has been standing in as skipper for Cummins, but his focus will be purely on batting in Adelaide.

However, three of his team-mates have scored more runs than Smith in the first two Tests, so it may pay dividends to look further afield.

Travis Head struck one of the greatest Ashes centuries in leading Australia to an eight-wicket win in Perth and is the leading run scorer in the current series – just as he was four years ago.

Head can be backed at 10/3 to lead the way with the bat in the first innings, but what about Marnus Labuschagne?

The 31-year-old right-hander flopped in the first innings in Perth, but made an unbeaten half-century in the second.

Only Mitchell Starc (77) and Jake Weatherald (72) scored more runs than Labuschagne in the first innings at the Gabba and it should not be forgotten he hit a century in Adelaide four years ago.

Labuschagne catches the eye at 4/1, while Weatherald is 6/1. Starc is 50/1 for an unlikely repeat of his heroics in Brisbane.

Joe Root finally got the monkey off his back with a first Ashes century Down Under with an unbeaten 138 in the second Test and is the 3/1 favourite to be England’s top run scorer in the first innings.

Zak Crawley should not be forgotten though. The opener bounced back from his pair in Perth with 76 in the first innings in Brisbane and fell just six runs short of a half-century in the second.

Crawley is 13/2 to score the most runs for England.

The explosive Harry Brook hit a first-innings half-century in Perth and is 7/2 to be top scorer for England again, while skipper Ben Stokes can be backed at 11/2.

The all-rounder was dismissed twice by Starc for just eight runs at the Optus Stadium, but was the only England player to make a 50 in the second innings at the Gabba.

Who Will Be Top Wicket-Taker In Third Ashes Test?

It’s hard to look beyond Starc, who has taken 18 wickets in the first two Tests – twice as many as the next highest.

The paceman is 2/1 to take the most first-innings wickets for a third successive time on the back of seven in Perth and six in Brisbane.

Starc also took the most wickets in the first innings in Adelaide in the 2021/22 series, so it’s hardly surprising he is the favourite.

His main challenger is returning skipper Cummins, but he missed the first two Tests with a back injury and may be one to avoid at 9/4.

Brendan Doggett (7/2) and Michael Neser (10/3) could make way for Cummins and off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who took three wickets in the first innings in Adelaide last time.

Lyon is 10/3 to dismiss the most England players.

For England, Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson lead the way at 5/2, but they have taken just three wickets each over the two Tests.

Bryson Carse is the leading wicket-taker for the tourists with eight and looks better value at 11/4, but Stokes is just one behind on seven and can be backed at 10/3.

The tourists must decide whether to refresh their bowling attack which could potentially see the introduction of Josh Tongue, England’s chief wicket-ticker (19) in the summer series against India.

Tongue is priced at 3/1.

Who Will Be Player Of The Match In Third Ashes Test?

Starc was voted player of the match in the first two Tests and is 7/1 to make it a hat-trick.

Smith and Head are both available at 8/1 with BoyleSports, with Cummins not far behind at 9/1.

England’s best hope in this market is Root at 10/1, with Stokes and Brook both priced at 12/1.
