2023 BMW Championship Predictions, PGA Odds, Picks and Best Bets:

The FedExCup Playoffs for 2023 are set to continue on Thursday with the BMW Championship taking place at Olympia Fields Country Club near Chicago, Ill.

With only two events left in the PGA playoffs, the top three global players dominate the FedEx Cup standings. Jon Rahm leads at No. 1, followed by Scottie Scheffler at No. 2, and Rory McIlroy holding the No. 3 spot.

Scottie Scheffler, despite being the world's top-ranked golfer, is currently in second place in the FedExCup Standings as the PGA Tour's 2023 season nears its end. His achievements this year include victories at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February and THE PLAYERS Championship in March.

Naturally, the best online betting sites, including BetMGM, FanDuel, and Caesars hold some intriguing 2023 BMW Championship odds

Southwind is a challenging course that rewards approach accuracy over brute length. Also, the grass has changed to zoysiagrass. That may impact some scores and give longer shots a better chance.

The 2023 BMW Championship odds contested at Olympia Fields’ North Course outside of Chicago, Illinois., features a $20 million purse with quadruple FedExCup points on offer.

The 2023 BMW Championship will witness a robust lineup of players, including Scheffler, competing at the esteemed Olympia Fields (North Course). This premier venue, hosting the top 50 from the FedEx Cup standings, has previously welcomed four men's major tournaments and the Women's PGA Championship in 2017.

Golfers will be challenged by the North Course's myriad of obstacles. The design boasts eight holes surrounded by water hazards and 91 sand bunkers. Notably, the North Course of Olympia Fields is distinguished as one of the 22 courses consistently listed in Golf Digest's America's 100 Greatest rankings. For this week's tournament, the par-70 course is set to stretch over approximately 7,366 yards.

While Rahm claimed victory at the BMW Championship when it was last held at Olympia Fields in 2020, all eyes are on Cantlay this time. Entering the event, Cantlay holds the unique distinction of being a consecutive champion. His triumph in 2022 marked him as the inaugural player to clinch back-to-back BMW Championship titles since the inception of the FedEx Cup in 2007.

2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship Betting Preview, Best Bets & Odds

Below are three of the best bets for this week’s tournament.

Best FedEx St. Jude Championship Bet #1: Rory McIlroy (+650) at FanDuel

Last week, a dark horse managed to clinch victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. However, with a compact 50-player roster at Olympia Fields this week, a repeat performance seems improbable. Typically, in no-cut events with a smaller pool of players, the cream usually rises to the top.

Among the world's elite golfers, none are in finer form right now than Rory McIlroy. Over his recent 24 rounds, the 34-year-old stands 4th in Strokes Gained: Approach, 2nd in both Strokes Gained: Tee to Green and Strokes Gained: Ball Striking, and leads in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee. Remarkably, McIlroy has consistently remained within the top 10 in his last eight events.

His impeccable ball-striking prowess was evident at TPC Southwind just last week. There, he gained 4.4 strokes off the tee and 4.7 strokes on his approach, resulting in a joint 3rd place finish. While opinions vary regarding McIlroy's major championship victories over the past ten years, his knack for clinching FedEx Cup events stands unquestioned. Currently neck-and-neck with Dustin Johnson for the highest number of FedEx Cup wins, McIlroy seems well-positioned to surpass him this week.

Olympia Fields is designed to challenge the big drivers in the golf world. While precise iron play and adept putting were the winning combo in Memphis last week, Olympia Fields presents a stark contrast. This demanding course necessitates sheer power for contention. Rewinding to 2020, both Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson showcased their dominance, leading to a playoff. Notably, powerful hitters like Joaquin Niemann, Tony Finau, and a then further-hitting Hideki Matsuyama were the sole players to finish under par.

Given the current season, Rory McIlroy's form makes him a formidable contender, especially on a challenging course like Olympia Fields at the BMW Championship.

Best FedEx St. Jude Championship #3: Scottie Scheffler (+700) at Caesars

Scheffler's recent performances suggest he may not be at the top of his game. Despite an impressive 2023 where he rarely finished below the tied 12th position, the University of Texas alumnus registered a T23 at The Open Championship and a T31 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Notably, the latter event saw Scheffler score below nine Shots Gained: Tee to Green for the first time since February.

While Scheffler's prowess in ball striking remains commendable, his putting skills seem to be a weak link. In recent tournaments, he consistently lost strokes on the green - evident from the 2.95 shots lost in Memphis, 4.79 at Royal Liverpool, and 2.21 at The Renaissance Club. In fact, he lost strokes in five of his last seven outings.

During his 2020 appearance at Olympia Fields for the BMW Championship, Scheffler, who is currently the world's top-ranked golfer, secured a tie for the 20th spot.

His ball-striking was spot on, but he faced challenges on the greens, losing 1.95 shots. Given his persistent issues with putting, betting on Scheffler, despite his outstanding 2023 season, might be a risky proposition, but few will be willing to back against one of the best ranked players in the world right now as we head into the business end ofthe season.

Best FedEx St. Jude Championship Bet #2: Cameron Young (+4000) at BetMGM

Olympia Fields stands out as one of the most challenging and lengthy golf courses and driving distance will play a pivotal role at this course, more so than any other PGA Tour venue this season.

Even though Cameron Young's season has seen highs and lows, it's undeniable that he's one of the top contenders when he has a driver at his disposal. Among the participants, only Rory McIlroy surpasses Young in terms of driving distance.

Besides the distinct edge in driving distance, Young also excels in challenging tournaments. He's consistently performed well in major championships and on tough courses like Riviera and Quail Hollow.

Just last week, he managed to gain 3.6 strokes off the tee at TPC Southwind. Given Olympia Fields' layout, Young will likely have numerous opportunities to maximize his driving capabilities throughout the course.

Though Young hasn't secured a victory on the PGA Tour yet, he's been a frequent contender in major events. Given that the BMW Championship will emulate the intensity of a major championship, it's plausible that the 25-year-old will find himself amidst the top contenders once again.

Final Thoughts on the 2023 BMW Championship

Rory McIlroy is entering this week as the top betting choice at +650, closely followed by his recent 3rd-place finish.

Scottie Scheffler trails slightly behind and is second favorite with odds of +700. Meanwhile, Patrick Cantlay, having won the championship twice in succession, stands at +1000, eyeing a third consecutive victory on three different courses.

This year marks the second time Olympia Fields is hosting the BMW Championship. Back in 2020, Jon Rahm emerged victorious against Dustin Johnson in a gripping playoff.

That week, the winning score was a 4-under 276, with a mere five players wrapping up the tournament under par. Given the course's challenging nature, dotted with bunkers, it's akin to a major championship ground, ensuring a rigorous test for the participants.

Scheffler fell at the final hurdle in this event last year, eventually being pipped on the final day by Rory McIlory and he will be desperate to put that behind him starting this weekend at Olympia Fields.
