Connecticut sportsbooks officially launched in 2021, with three approved operators permitted to launch their legal online sportsbooks and mobile betting apps.
Online and retail sports betting was legalized in Connecticut by Public Act 21-23 (originally House Bill 6451) in May 2021. The legislation allowed for up to three online sportsbooks to partner with the state's two federally recognized tribes and the Connecticut Lottery.
This legislation required the state to enter into compacts with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and the Mohegan Tribe, which had to be then approved by the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs before sports betting could officially launch.
Each of the tribal operators in the state was granted one sports betting skin through which they can legally offer sports betting to Connecticut bettors. The Connecticut Lottery is permitted to operate 15 outlets across the state.
Betting on college sports is allowed, but you cannot bet on in-state college teams within Connecticut. The only exception is for in-state teams participating in large tournaments, such as March Madness.
