Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (5pm ET)

The competition is set to be fiercely fast. Big Evs is the early favorite and thrives leading the pack.

However, he's up against formidable competitors, particularly the swift American contenders Crimson Advocate and No Nay Mets, who are positioned to his inside and will inevitably push the pace.

Not to be overlooked are the swift GIVEMETHEBEATBOYS and Slider flanking the favorite's outside.

The scenario favors a horse with a strong finishing kick, and Amidst Waves stands out as the prime candidate.

Despite a narrow defeat in the Indian Summer, where he encountered late traffic issues, he demonstrated that he had the winning move if not for the need to navigate through congestion.

Amidst Waves is known for his come-from-behind ability, yet he's also likely to outpace other late-charging contenders, an advantage in the brisk five-furlong race on Santa Anita's fast turf.

The Indian Summer victor and third-place finisher, Committee of One and Shards respectively, are anticipated to make strong late surges as well.

Among the frontrunners, Slider shows promise with a tenacity to endure and prevail, especially as he has previously triumphed over this local track and distance.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (6:20pm ET)

The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf presents an unpredictable affair, offering a chance to back a longshot.

Despite a fourth-place finish in the Miss Grillo (G2), Gala Brand previously triumphed over colts in the With Anticipation (G3) at Saratoga.

Bill Mott, known for his prudent handling, wouldn't continue with Gala Brand unless she was in prime condition.

She’s expected to be a strong contender in the final stretch. Buchu, victorious in the Jessamine (G2), also comes in strong, having demonstrated versatility in her maiden victory which suggests she could adapt well to the mile cutback.

Among the European entries, Carla’s Way and PORTA FORTUNA stand out, though they are untested at a mile or more, casting doubt on their short odds given the uncharted distance.

Their peak performances may have been in events like the Rockfel (G2) or Cheveley Park (G1), which they secured. Looking for value,

Laulne becomes intriguing; her consistent European form might translate better stateside, particularly at the Breeders’ Cup.

She faces questions around two-turn races, but her lineage suggests potential, making her an attractive bet at possibly generous odds.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile (7pm ET)

Spanning 1 1/16 miles on the dirt track, this competition showcases emerging equine talents that could potentially advance to compete in prestigious races such as the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, Haskell Stakes, or Travers Stakes.

Bob Baffert, a trainer with a distinguished track record in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, will be competing on familiar territory this year.

Of his contenders, Muth stands out, having impressively moved up to two turns in the American Pharoah (G1). Despite a previous defeat to Prince of Monaco in the Best Pal, Muth’s affinity for longer distances may give him an edge.

Nevertheless, Prince of Monaco’s aptitude and strategic speed cannot be overlooked, and he could very well turn in a strong performance.

The morning-line frontrunner, Locked, is favorably positioned. At Santa Anita, he may need to stay closer to the leaders than he did in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) to maintain an advantage, drawing on his experience from a maiden victory where he kept up with the pace over two turns.

The THE WINE STEWARD has also emerged as a promising contender, nearly besting Locked in the Breeders’ Futurity and demonstrating the ability to cope with inside posts, although he's yet to face such a challenge in as large a field as this.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (7:40pm ET)

Aidan O'Brien enters the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf with a pair of aces up his sleeve. RIVER TIBER may be the morning-line preference, but Unquestionable could eclipse his stablemate.

Coming close in the Prix Jean Luc Lagardere (G1) by a mere length on soft turf, firmer ground at the Cup could give him an edge, and his pedigree hints that the mile stretch may further play to his strengths.

Despite a fifth-place finish in the Bourbon, Tok Tok's strong finish amid congestion displayed the sort of resilience desirable in a Breeders’ Cup hopeful.

With a full 14-horse field, his maturity and potential for increased tactical speed—hinted at by his performance with blinkers in the Kitten’s Joy—could be advantageous.

Carson’s Run, who triumphed in the Summer, may have to overcome an outer post position, but Santa Anita's turf course often neutralizes such disadvantages, and his adaptability in pace adds to his appeal.

Endlessly, another contender, has the advantage of a favorable draw and enters off a win in the local preparatory race, setting the stage for a potentially strong showing.
