Best MLB Bets Today, MLB Picks & MLB Player Props for 09/06:

Houston and Texas wrap up a three-game series at Globe Life Field in Arlington this Wednesday night. The first pitch is set for 8:05 PM ET, so here’s the best Astros vs. Rangers prediction along with the latest odds update from the best online betting sites.

For the best MLB bets today, it’s tough to pick up a side in this matchup. The Astros will send Justin Verlander to the mound, and the Rangers will counter with Max Scherzer, so we’ll see a great battle between a couple of future Hall of Famers.

Furthermore, these two teams are in the midst of a thrilling playoff race. The 78-61 Astros held the second wild card in the American League on Tuesday morning, and the 76-61 Rangers were right behind them.

Astros vs. Rangers Betting Trends, Form & MLB Player Props

Before we get to my Astros vs. Rangers prediction for Wednesday night, let’s take a look at the latest and hottest Astros vs. Rangers betting trends. Houston trounced Texas 13-6 in the opening contest of this set. It was the Astros’ seventh win in 11 games against the Rangers in 2023.

Best Astros vs. Rangers Betting Trends:

  • The Astros have won eight of their last nine games at Globe Life Field
  • Houston is 8-1 in its last nine games on the road
  • The Astros are 4-1 in Justin Verlander’s previous five starts
  • The Rangers have dropped seven of their last eight home games
  • Five of Max Scherzer’s last six starts have seen less than eight runs

The Astros stopped a three-game slide with that 13-6 dismantling of the Rangers. It was Houston’s sixth win in nine games, and the Astros lineup has recorded a .331/.407/.564 triple-slash and 167 wRC+ in that stretch. On the other side, the Rangers have gone 4-5 in their last nine contests while slashing .238/.322/.436 (105 wRC+).

Justin Verlander has gone 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 4.69 FIP in six starts (35 innings pitched) since he joined Houston at the trade deadline. The 40-year-old right-hander has been inconsistent lately and after throwing 11 scoreless frames across two games versus Boston and Detroit, Verlander yielded six earned runs on eight hits in a losing effort against the New York Yankees this past Friday.

Max Scherzer is 3-1 with a shiny 2.21 ERA and 2.47 ERA through six starts (36.2 IP) in the Rangers uniform. He’s recorded 18 or more outs in five of those six starts. The 39-year-old righty tortured the Minnesota Twins last Friday, allowing one hit and two walks across six shutout innings. Backing Mad Max to dominate once more looks like one of the best MLB bets today.

Astros vs. Rangers MLB Picks, Odds & Best MLB Bets Today

Here’s the list of my best MLB picks for the closing game of the Astros vs. Rangers series. With Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer on the mound, I’m not expecting to see a lot of runs through the first five innings.

⭐ Best Bet #1: F5 Under 4.5 runs (-120) at BetMGM: Verlander can only pitch better than he did against the Yanks last time out. Scherzer, on the other side, will look to keep the good times rolling. As a member of the New York Mets, Scherzer met the Astros in June and pitched eight frames of a one-run, four-hit ball in an 11-1 victory. Although both Houston and Texas possess plenty of dangerous bats, I’m backing the starting duo to put on a show.

⭐ Best Bet #2: Max Scherzer over 18.5 outs (+130) at FanDuel: The Rangers cannot rely on their ‘pen and desperately need another strong display from Scherzer. Mad Max has recorded more than 18 outs in three of his previous five starts. He tossed 88 pitches through six frames last Friday and will be ready to surpass the 100-mark in this one.

⭐ Best Bet #3: Astros to win on the moneyline (+110) at Caesars: The Astros should edge the Rangers down the stretch. Houston’s relievers have amassed a 2-0 record, 2.36 ERA, and 3.96 FIP over the last ten days and 34.1 innings of work, whereas the Rangers bullpen has gone 4-5 with a pedestrian 5.35 ERA and 6.67 FIP through 38.2 innings pitched.
