LSU, Coastal Carolina Square Off In College World Series

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and LSU Tigers square off this weekend in a best-of-three conclusion to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The winner will be crowned the national collegiate champion.

The Chanticleers, representing the Sun Belt Conference, hope to end the Southeastern Conference’s recent college-baseball dominance by beating the SEC’s Bayou Bengals. Teams from the SEC have won the last five CWS titles and six of the last seven.

Behind solid pitching by Kade Anderson, Anthony Eyanson and a strong bullpen, the Tigers are favored, but Coastal has weapons of its own. According to USA Today, the Chanticleers "might just be the team best-constructed to keep LSU at bay, with pitching depth and sound defensive fundamentals."

Coastal Carolina has overpowered the Tigers in the past. In the 2016 Super Regional in Baton Rouge, Coastal ousted LSU to advance to Omaha, where Chanticleers went on to win the national title.

On the other hand, LSU is coming off a dramatic come-from-behind, ninth-inning win over SEC rival Arkansas this week to advance to the championship series, with the Tigers' key starting pitchers well rested. This would be LSU's eighth College World Series title.

At DraftKings Sportsbook, LSU (-190) is favored in the best-of-three series over Coastal Carolina (+155).
