Maryland’s October Casino Revenue Up 1% Compared To 2024

Maryland’s six land-based casinos posted $162.1 162.1million of revenue in October 2025, representing a 1% increase from 2024’s $160.5 million.

Since the market regulation in September 2011, revenue has totaled $20.4 billion, with the casinos themselves receiving 57.1% of this amount.

Although online casino gambling remains unregulated in the state, mobile sports betting was introduced in November 2022, following the introduction of retail sports wagering in December 2021.

Maryland’s six casinos were opened between 2010 and 2016. They are located in Perryville, Berlin, Hanover, Cumberland, Baltimore, and Oxon Hill.

The largest of the casinos, MGM National Harbor, actually saw a decrease in revenue this October, with figures down 1.9% to $67.9 million for the month.

Hollywood Casino also saw a decline, with October revenue down 10.5% to $6.5 million. The remaining locations all saw gains in revenue figures.

The most significant improvement was observed at the Horseshoe Casino. Its revenue increased 12.7% to $15.5m.

Live! Casino & Hotel’s revenue was up 1.7% to $59.7m. Ocean Downs Casino’s $8.1m revenue represented an 11.1% increase, and Rocky Gap Casino posted a 0.7% gain with $4.4m of revenue for the month.

Of the $162.1 million total, the casinos contributed $69.6 million to the state, up 1.5% from 2024.

Although October saw slight gains, the fiscal year picture is less optimistic. During the four months to the end of October, revenue totaled $650 million, which is 2.1% lower than the same period in 2023.

Gambling Regulations

Although online casinos have not yet been regulated, online sports betting is legal in the Free State.

However, some lawmakers are seeking to roll back regulations.

Senator Joanne C. Benson has introduced a bill that would ban sports betting and potentially refund license fees to currently licensed entities.

The bill will be up for discussion in 2026. Although the proposed legislation is not expected to pass, it may open discussions on how to manage gambling in the state more closely.

One area likely to come under the spotlight is that of proposition bets.

Proposition bets are smaller bets, including occurrences that aren’t necessarily affected by the final outcome of a game or event.

Bettors can wager on the first team to score, the total number of tries, and whether certain players will get booked or substituted.

Such bets are becoming increasingly popular among punters, but some lawmakers worry that they increase the allure of match-fixing.

It’s easier for players to affect whether they will be sent off during a match, or even how many points they will score.

Similarly, managers and coaches decide who plays and when substitutions are made.

This, at least according to some, opens up certain sports to greater potential for betting scandals and cheating.
