Monday Night Football Picks, MLB Players Props & Best Bets for 10/09

On October 9, 2023, we have two MLB playoff games, which feature our Braves vs. Phillies prediction, Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks prediction, and the conclusion of our NFL Week 5 predictions with our Raiders vs. Packers prediction.

The Packers are 2-2 this season and 3-1 ATS, while the Raiders are 1-3 on the year and 1-3 ATS.

Green Bay is coming off a 34-20 home loss on Thursday Night Football in Week 4, so they’ve had extra time off, while the Raiders had a 24-17 loss in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo missed this game due to a concussion, but he’s back here.

Looking at the MLB games, here are the pitching matchups:

  • Max Fried (Braves) vs. Zack Wheeler (Phillies) - Philadelphia leads the series 1-0.
  • Bobby Miller (Dodgers) vs. Zac Gallen (Diamondbacks) - Arizona leads the series 1-0.

For our NFL picks and MLB picks below, we used the best online betting sites, including BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, and DraftKings.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Green Bay Packers NFL Week 5 Predictions

Green Bay Packers ML (+110) at BetMGM

Heading into this game on the road, the Packers have had plenty of rest, last playing on September 28. Still, they have an extensive injury report with Zayne Anderson and De’Vondre Campbell ruled out and several other players listed as questionable.

The leading injury is Garoppolo, but he’s cleared to play after suffering a brutal hit and concussion in Week 3. He missed Week 4, and Aidan O’Connell drew the start.

Through three games, Garoppolo is complying 68.1% of his passes for 709 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions. His six interceptions are tied for the league lead with Daniel Jones and Sam Howell, and remember, he missed Week 4.

This season, the Packers defense has intercepted three passes, allowed four touchdowns, and has ten pass breakups.

Another storyline to watch is the Raiders wide receiver against his old team. He’ll have excellent matchups here, but the Packers wide receivers, which consist of Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and tight end Luke Musgrave, have plenty of solid matchups, too.

The two starting outside cornerbacks for the Raiders, Marcus Peters and Jakorian Bennett (Nate Hobbs is ruled out), have allowed 26 receptions on 36 targets (72.2% reception rate) for 374 yards and two touchdowns.

These are excellent matchups for those receivers and Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who’s only completing 56.1% of his passes but has 901 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions.

He likes to throw the downfield. Of his attempts, 14.4% sail 20+ yards downfield, which is sixth amongst all quarterbacks with at least 60 pass attempts this season.

With the extra rest, look for the Packers to pick up plenty of yards with throws from Love downfield on this pedestrian coverage unit the Raiders will offer up.

For the first of our NFL picks in this Raiders vs. Packers prediction, we like the Packers to win outright here.

Christian Watson Any Time TD (+185) at Caesars

Speaking of that pedestrian coverage unit, we like what this game could mean for wide receiver Christian Watson.

Dealing with injuries pretty much all season and leaving Week 4 early, Watson has only played 20 receiving snaps this season. Before exiting Week 4 early, he had four targets, two receptions, 25 yards, and a touchdown.

Opposite him will be a combination of Peters and Bennett, who we discussed above. They’ve allowed two touchdowns this season and a reception rate of 72.2%.

Look for Watson to succeed downfield here, thanks to Love’s willingness to throw it there. The NFL odds with plus value also help here, and you can get fellow wide receiver Romeo Doubs at the same +185 line.

Take a chance on Watson scoring a touchdown for the final NFL pick in this Raiders vs. Packers prediction.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Predictions

Philadelphia Phillies ML (+134) at FanDuel

The Phillies have looked unstoppable this postseason for this Braves vs. Phillies prediction; we’re sticking by them here on the back of Wheeler.

This season, Wheeler has pitched two games at Truist Park in Atlanta. He’s 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA, 14 innings, 17 strikeouts, and just six hits and one earned run allowed. These games happened at the beginning of the season and, more recently, in September.

The Phillies have been an excellent offense this season, scoring just under five runs per game, though, yes, Atlanta has been better at 5.81 runs per game.

Fried is on the mound here for the Braves and has been excellent this season. He’s 8-1 with a 2.55 ERA across 14 starts with 80 strikeouts in under 73 innings.

Another wager to consider here could be the under on the total, but the Phillies are red-hot right now, sweeping the Miami Marlins in the Wild Card round, and with plus MLB odds, we like the Phillies moneyline for one of our best MLB bets today.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions

Los Angeles Dodgers ML (-166) at DraftKings

Looking at our Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks prediction, we have a similar situation here as with the Braves and Phillies. The Diamondbacks have won three straight postseason games and lead the Dodgers 1-0 in the series.

The Dodgers will face Zac Gallen here, who’s been excellent this season at 17-9 with a 3.47 ERA and 220 strikeouts across 210 innings. However, Gallen’s numbers have been far better at home than on the road.

Gallen is 5-6 on the road this season with a 4.42 ERA and has allowed 15 home runs across 108 innings. At home, he’s 12-3 with a 2.47 ERA. His K/9 is also 8.3 on the road compared to 10.6 at home.

The Dodgers score 5.57 runs per game compared to the Diamondbacks’ 4.65.

That said, this is Dodgers starter Bobby Miller’s first-ever postseason start. Opposite Gallen, Miller has struggled at home, going 5-3 with a 4.55 ERA. His K/9 is 8.2 at home.

Expect both pitchers to get roughed up here.

The run line here is just eight runs, and we will take the over for the final MLB pick of our best MLB bets today.
