NFL Draft Picks: How Will Teams with Multiple Picks Make Moves?

Whenever the NFL Draft comes around, this is a perfect time for teams to add young talent to their rosters as they rebuild, progress the franchise, or add more pieces to a Super Bowl-contending roster.
Having a first-round pick in the NFL Draft ensures you’ll receive one of the top 32 (or 31 for the 2023 draft) players.
That said, some teams have the luxury of having two or more of those picks, which can help propel a franchise forward in its trajectory.
Here, we’ll look at all of the teams in the 2023 NFL Draft that have multiple first-round picks and analyze what directions they could go in to help improve their rosters.
NFL Draft 2023: Teams With Multiple First-Round Picks
Houston Texans: No. 2 and No. 12 Overall
This 2023 NFL Draft is a pivotal moment for the Texans franchise. With these two top-12 picks and a new coach in DeMeco Ryans, the Texans can add two blue-chip talents to a roster that needs an influx of talent.
Looking up and down the roster, there isn’t a spot the Texans can't use an upgrade. They have Dameon Pierce at running back and two cornerbacks, Steven Nelson, and Derek Stingley that can get by. Other than that, this team needs a ton of talent. They have three picks in the top 33 and six in the top 104. They also have two first-round choices in 2024.
At No. 2 overall, this is a prime spot for a quarterback to come in and start Day 1. However, Alabama’s Bryce Young is the odds-on favorite to go No. 1 overall, leaving the Texans with their choice of C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, and Anthony Richardson.
Stroud is the next option to look toward, but he shares an agent, David Mulugheta, with Deshaun Watson.
Needless to say, the Texans history with Mulugheta could be better, so if Young were to go No. 1 overall, the Texans defensive-minded coach could look toward Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson, a can’t-miss, blue-chip player.
If Young goes No. 1, don’t be surprised to see the Texans take Anderson. Remember, they have multiple picks inside the top 104, so they could move up from No. 12 to take a quarterback should one fall.
Prediction: Texans take Anderson at No. 2. The Texans then trade No. 12, No. 65, and No. 73 overall to the Detroit Lions for No. 6 and No. 152 to draft Anthony Richardson.
First-Round Picks: Will Anderson and Anthony Richardson
Detroit Lions: No. 6 and No. 18 Overall
Based on the trade mentioned above, the Lions go from owning No. 6 and No. 18 to now owning No. 12 and No. 18 but also have two more top 75 picks.
The Lions are an intriguing team. They have a fantastic offense, even with quarterback Jared Goff at the helm. The team appears all in one him, at least for another year. They could opt not to trade down and take a quarterback, but accumulating more assets to add to their defense might be the better solution.
They had a top-scoring offense in 2022, but they also had a defense that allowed over 392 yards per game, which was the worst in the league.
With this trade down, they own picks 12, 18, 48, 55, 65, 73, 81, and four at 152 or later. That many selections inside the top 81 not only allow them to have their pick of a bunch of talent, but if there’s a guy they like later in the draft that’s falling, they have plenty of assets to use to move up without sacrificing 2024 compensation.
The Lions could use more help along the defensive line. While they have Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams at receiver, they should continue to add weapons for Goff to put him and the offense in the best possible situation to succeed.
With these two first-round picks, we will have them select defensive interior and wide receiver.
Prediction: Lions pick at No. 12 and No. 18, draft defensive lineman Calijah Kancey (12), and wide receiver, Quentin Johnston.

Seattle Seahawks: No. 5 and No. 20 Overall
Possessing the No. 5 overall pick because of the Russell Wilson trade, the Seahawks will have the decision to make come draft night should one of the four quarterbacks fall to them at No. 5. There is certainly a situation where none fall. Still, the chances are at least one of them will be there, especially if we think the Texans move ahead with Anderson at No. 2 overall.
A top four of the draft could look like Young, Anderson, the Arizona Cardinals trading down to a quarterback-needy team, and then the Colts taking a quarterback.
Based on rankings and scouting reports, the Seahawks could have Richardson or Levis available.
They did sign quarterback Geno Smith to a contract extension, but when you look at the finer details, they could cut Smith after this season and move on.
However, Smith proved to a capable starter and deserves another shot without a No. 5 overall quarterback breathing down his neck.
Instead, the Seahawks, who 71-year-old Pete Carroll coaches, will look to bolster the roster for a playoff push. After making the playoffs, their original pick is No. 20 overall.
So, instead of a quarterback, the Seahawks could look to continue building the trenches. They have a great running game with Kenneth Walker and the one-two punch of Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf at wide receiver.
At No. 5 overall, the pick should be Jalen Carter. Of course, there is the off-the-field stuff with Carter, but that has seemingly been resolved. The more significant concern for NFL teams is his Pro Day performance, where he showed up incredibly out of shape. If a team can take on a player with baggage, it’s the Seahawks, and Carroll is someone we should trust to get the start player on track.
Now, moving to pick No. 20, the Seahawks could go in a few directions here. One option is adding talent to the defensive line, such as an edge rusher. Iowa’s Lukas Van Ness is an elite and strong athlete, but he could be gone by No. 20. The Seahawks could also add a cornerback to go opposite Tariq Woolen, but they’ve always had a knack for drafting cornerbacks late, and them panning out, like Woolen.
The offensive line is an area of need for the team. At this point, plenty of talent might be off the board, but they could swing for Oklahoma’s Anton Harrison, a tackle through and through. He could line up on the right side while Charles Cross assumes the left tackle role.
Prediction: Seahawks pick at No. 5 and No. 20, draft defensive lineman Jalen Carter (5), and either edge rusher Lukas Van Ness or offensive tackle Anton Harrison.

Philadelphia Eagles: No. 10 and No. 30 Overall
The Eagles received the No. 10 overall pick because of a trade they made last year with the New Orleans Saints. The Saints moved from No. 18 overall to No. 16, then traded up again to No. 11 to take wide receiver Chris Olave.
Now, the Eagles, the defending NFC Champions, have two first-round picks.
Oh boy.
And at No. 10 overall, they’ll have a chance at getting a top-six player should four quarterbacks go inside the top 10.
Honestly, the Eagles' roster is loaded. A No. 10 selection should not have anything to do with need but with making a spot on the roster stronger.
There are two cornerbacks that are considered the cream of the crop of the draft in Syracuse’s Devon Witherspoon and Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez. It’s looking like Witherspoon may be drafted ahead of Gonzalez, who has a chance to slip to the Eagles at No. 10 overall.
The team brought back Darius Slay and James Bradberry and have Avonte Maddox on the roster. However, the depth behind them is lacking, so not only does Gonzalez fill somewhat of a need, but he’ll play meaningful snaps due to his versatile ability.
OK, now let’s move to No. 30 overall.
The team has Fletcher Cox on the roster and big man Jordan Davis, but why not add more defensive interior help?
Michigan’s Mazi Smith is a borderline first-round talent. Still, it’ll be hard to find a player of his size with similar athleticism. He doesn’t need to be a Day 1 starter, but along the interior with Davis, he will be an absolute nightmare for rushing attacks everywhere.
Prediction: Eagles pick at No. 10 and No. 30, draft cornerback Christian Gonzalez (10) and defensive lineman Mazi Smith (30).
First-Round Picks: CB Christian Gonzalez and DL Mazi Smith.
