Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays Picks & Predictions October 3

The Texas Rangers (90-72) and the Tampa Bay Rays (99-63) play Game 1 of the American League Wild Card series on Tuesday afternoon at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.

Corey Seager, with a slugging percentage of .444 in his past 10 games - including two home runs - will be in action for the Texas Rangers against the Tampa Bay Rays, with Tyler Glasnow on the hill who had a hitless performance in his most recent game (0-for-4) against the Mariners.

We've used the best online betting sites to find these bets, including BetMGM, Caesars, and DraftKings.

Regular-season series: Rangers won 4-2

In the final week, the Rangers lost their AL West title lead, facing the 99-win Rays in the Wild Card series.

Texas clinched 4 out of 6 regular-season matchups but faltered 2 of 3 times in St. Petersburg between June 9-11. Notably, all Arlington meets favored the Under, while "The Trop" saw a 3-0 Over streak.

The Rangers stumbled at season's end, losing 3 out of 4 in Seattle and scoring only 9 runs. In the last five games, the Under was prevalent for Texas.

Conversely, the Rays shined, narrowly missing their second 100-win season, finishing with 99 wins. They concluded on a 4-1 streak, often hitting the Over.

Yet, at home, the Rays were a mere 3-3, and Texas struggled with a 3-7 record on their last 10 road games.

Rangers vs. Rays: Pitching Matchup

I strongly beleive that so much depends on the pitching when it comes to the outcome of this series and with such a short turnaround between the end of the regulor season and the postseason, the players on the mound will have a massive say in who progresses here.

Rangers at Rays projected starters

LHP Jordan Montgomery vs. LHP Tyler Glasnow

Montgomery, boasting a record of 10-11 and a 3.20 ERA, is set for his second postseason career start for Texas tonight. During the regular season, spanning 188 2/3 innings with the St. Louis Cardinals and Rangers across 32 starts, he achieved a 1.19 WHIP, 2.3 walks per nine innings (BB/9), and 7.9 strikeouts per nine innings (K/9).

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 3-2 road loss vs. the Mariners on Thursday
  • 2023 road splits: 3-6, 2.73 ERA (89 IP, 27 ER), 8 HR, .227 OBA in 15 starts

Glasnow (10-7, 3.53 ERA) makes his 10th career postseason start. He had a 1.08 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 12.2 K/9 in 120 innings across 21 starts.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 9 K in 5-0 road win vs. the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday
  • 2023 home splits: 4-3, 3.18 ERA (56 2/3 IP, 20 ER), 5 HR, .163 OBA in 10 starts

Best Moneyline Bets Today: Texas Rangers vs Tampa Bay Rays

⭐ Tampa Bay Rays ML (-150) at BetMGM

The Tampa Bay Rays (-150) look promising at home with Glasnow pitching and that's where the difference lies in my eyes.

He dominated at home, limiting teams to a mere .163 batting average across 10 starts, totaling 56 2/3 innings under the dome.

This includes his performance on June 9, when Glasnow surrendered only a solo home run in 6 innings, leading to an 8-3 win over the Rangers.

Best Runline Bets Today: Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays

⭐ Rays -1.5 (+140) at Caesars

I'll b taking the Rays -1.5 (+140) on the run line, but would definitely advise caution.

This is down to the fact that I have confidence in Glasnow playing at home, even if his past postseason performance has been inconsistent, especially compared to Montgomery.

The Rangers +1.5 (-165) also lack the playoff background that the Rays possess.

Even though Tampa Bay has an 11-4 record in their last 15 games as favorites straight up, they've only achieved a 9-8 record on the run line in their previous 17 as favorites. So, be careful.

⭐ Best MLB PickRays -1.5 (+140) at Caesars

Best Player Prop Bets Today: Texas Rangers vs Tampa Bay Rays

⭐  Corey Seager Over 1.5 Bases (+110)  at DraftKings

With 155 hits and a .388 OBP, I beleive Seager could be the Rays' key man on offense in this matchup.

In the MLB, his batting average is fifth, and he ranks 10th for on-base percentage, with an impressive second place in slugging.

What's more, in 76.5% of his games this year, Seager secured at least one hit, hitting home runs in 26.1% of them.

He's also showcased his prowess by notching an RBI in 45.4% of his games, and in 12 instances, he's been responsible for three or more of his team's runs.

Additionally, Seager scored in over half of his games, with multi-run games 23 times, so I fully expect him to be on base numerous times tonight (+110).

⭐ Best MLB Pick Corey Seager Over 1.5 Bases (+110)  at DraftKings

As we look forward to the thrilling 2023 MLB regular season, there's another exciting development on the horizon for sports betting enthusiasts. As of September 28, Kentucky launched online sports betting, paving the way for the emergence of new sports betting apps in Kentucky. This opens up a new realm of opportunities for fans and bettors alike. Stay tuned for more updates on this front.
