What New York Jets Wide Receiver Will be Aaron Rodgers' Favorite Target?
The New York Jets have had quite an eventful offseason headlined by trading for future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Before joining the Jets, Rodgers was on the Green Bay Packers, a team that hadn’t selected a wide receiver in the first round since the early 2000s. Over the years, a primary complaint from the outside looking in was Rodgers’ lack of receiving weapons with the team, but in going to the Jets, that appeared to be solved.
However, on Wednesday, the Jets traded wide receiver Denzel Mims and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Detroit Lions for a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick.
Additionally, the condition on the sixth-round pick is that Mims makes the 53-man roster, per NFL.com's Tom Pelissero. So, as Pelissero puts it, it’s a “free look” at the player, potentially.
This came after reports that the team would move on from the fourth-year and former second-round wide receiver.
Spending three years with the team, Mims never had made more than 23 receptions in a single season and caught zero touchdowns.
Overall, the loss is hardly notable from a depth chart perspective. Still, we wondered who Rodgers’ No. 1 receiver would be this season.

Aaron Rodgers No. 1 Wide Receiver Betting Odds
Garrett Wilson (-750)
Upon arriving at the Jets, Rodgers got to work quickly, spending a lot of time with second-year wide receiver and reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson.
Wilson was a first-round pick coming out of Ohio State in 2022. Despite a flurry of quarterbacks last season, he finished the year playing all 17 games, seeing 147 targets, catching 83 passes, and going over 1,100 yards.
Unfortunately, he had just four touchdowns.
Wilson is easily the most talented receiver on the roster, and Rodgers even went so far as to compare Wilson to his former No. 1 option Davante Adams on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this year.
Expect a massive year from Wilson. Pending health, he should easily clear 100 receptions.

Allen Lazard (+300)
Signing a deal with the Jets before Rodgers landed in town, Lazard had to have seen the writing on the wall or had some inside information.
On March 14, Lazard signed a 4-year, $44 million deal with the team.
Of course, he has a history with Rodgers, and we saw him in a pseudo-No. 1 wide receiver role with him last year in Green Bay.
Playing in 15 games, Lazard saw 100 targets, caught 60 of them, and went for 788 yards and six scores.
He’ll be a dependable weapon for Rodgers, but he’s the No. 2 on this team behind Wilson, no matter what the history books tell us.
Lazard saw 41.8% of his targets between 0-9 yards last year, and that will come in handy with Wilson working the more intermediate levels of the field, 10-19 yards.

Mecole Hardman (+1200)
Likely operating primarily out of the slot, Hardman has a chance to gobble up some serious targets in a Rodgers-led offense.
Last year, he was injured for most of the season, but Hardman caught 27 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns. That’s an 11.4 yards per reception average playing out of the slot more than 51% of the time.
It’s unlikely he’ll be utilized more than Lazard, especially not Wilson (again, pending health), but he’s worth noting thanks to his sensational speed and playing from a spot that can rack up receptions and yardage.
