This Saturday features what we consider the most compelling NFL matchup of the week: an intrastate clash between the New York Jets and the New York Giants. This game marks the preseason finale for both teams.

The Jets hold a 1-2 preseason record. They began by falling to the Browns in the Hall of Fame Game, then bounced back with a shutout against Carolina, only to suffer a 13-6 defeat to the Buccaneers. The Jets are looking to improve on their 7-10 record from the 2022 season, which concluded with six straight losses.

As for the Giants, they managed a postseason berth last year with a 9-7-1 record and finished third in the NFC East Team Standings. Their preseason has been a mixed bag, featuring a loss to the Lions and a home win against the Panthers in Week 2.

Now, turning our attention to the Jets vs. Giants prediction, this showdown promises to be one of the more intriguing games on the NFL's preseason calendarso here are our Free NFL Picks & Odds...

Jets vs. Giants NFL Week 3 Predictions

The Jets have participated in an extra preseason game compared to most teams, the exception being the Browns, due to their involvement in the season-opening Hall of Fame game. However, in their three preseason matchups thus far, Jets fans haven't yet seen star quarterback Aaron Rodgers take a snap.

That's expected to change this Saturday against the Giants. While it's uncertain how much time Rodgers will spend on the field, you'll want to stay tuned even during commercials, as his appearance may be brief.

Though Dalvin Cook and last year's standout rookie Breece Hall won't be participating, they are both expected to be fit for week one. Rodgers will have his primary receiver, Garrett Wilson, along with offseason acquisition Mecole Hardman and Green Bay alum Allen Lazard to target on Saturday.

On the Giants' side, they secured their first preseason win last Saturday with a narrow 21-19 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Quarterback Daniel Jones started the game and turned in a solid performance, going 8-for-9 with 69 yards and a touchdown, earning a quarterback rating of 135.

Backup quarterbacks Tommy DeVito and Tyrod Taylor also impressed; DeVito threw for 88 yards on a 9-for-11 outing, while Taylor contributed 90 yards and a touchdown, and added 21 yards on the ground. It seems unlikely that Jones will suit up against the Jets, so expect a DeVito and Taylor-led offense.

Rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt stood out in the game, hauling in four receptions for 35 yards and a score. Tight ends Daniel Bellinger and Darren Waller also made impacts, with Bellinger grabbing a touchdown and Waller snagging three catches for 30 yards.

Saquon Barkley's preseason status remains unclear, but given his solid practice sessions this past week, anything is possible. However, it would be surprising to see him on the field against the Jets. The backfield workload will likely be shared among rookie Eric Gray, James Robinson, and potentially Matt Breida, who has had limited playing time so far.

Jets -6 (-110) at BetMGM

Having Rodgers on the field for a few series should almost guarantee that the Jets put points on the board, particularly as the Giants experiment with various defensive players. Among those could be Isaiah Simmons, the 2020 draft's fourth overall pick, who was recently acquired by the Giants through a trade on Thursday.

Still, the Jets' defense is likely to dominate most of the game. It previously limited the Panthers and Buccaneers to a combined 13 points—all of which were contributed by Tampa Bay. By comparison, Carolina scored 19 points against the Giants just last week.

Look for the Jets to recover from their disappointing performance last week. Their defense is poised to make life difficult for the Giants throughout the game, especially when facing third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito and the Jets' formidable pass rush.

Under 39 Points (-105) at Draftkings

The headline of the evening will no doubt be Rodgers, but the overarching narrative of the Jets' preseason has been their commanding pass rush, which is expected to persist against the Giants.

The Giants have already conceded seven sacks in their two preseason encounters against the fairly average defenses of Detroit and Carolina. They're up for an even greater challenge against the Jets, whose defensive depth is well-equipped to pressure quarterbacks consistently throughout the game.

Although a line of 39 points reflects Rodgers' star power, even this future Hall of Fame quarterback is unlikely to push the game to exceed that total. The spotlight will largely be on the backups, as was evident in the Jets' game last week, with both defenses set to be the real focal points of the match.

New York Jets by 1-13 Pts (+140) at FanDuel

The Jets have more to prove and may field more starters, giving them the edge. Their dominant defense should make life difficult for the Giants, particularly their third-string quarterback. Expect the Jets to carry the day in a low-scoring but engaging contest.
