DraftKings, Underdog Apply To Operate In Missouri

A state official told Gambling.com on Wednesday, June 11, that sports betting operators DraftKings and Underdog have applied to operate in Missouri.

Elizabeth Hoffman, commission public relations coordinator, said DraftKings Missouri and Underdog became the first to apply after the Missouri Gaming Commission made sports betting license applications available in May.

Hoffman said those two are the only sports betting operators to seek licensing so far.  However, other operators, including FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars Sportsbook, are also expected to apply.

With several months to go before the Dec. 1 launch of legal sports betting in Missouri, the application process is the first step to begin accepting wagers statewide. From there, the applicants must undergo a state investigation while authorities establish wagering rules and regulations.

By law, sports betting must begin by Dec. 1. Jan Zimmerman, commission chairman, recently told Gambling.com that legal sports betting will start on that date but not before then. Once legal sports betting begins, bettors age 21 and over in Missouri will be allowed to wager in person at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks or by using a cellphone or computer anywhere in the state. Missouri is home to 13 casinos.

Even before sports betting operators are approved, some have partnered with casinos. For instance, Century Casinos announced it is partnering with BetMGM Missouri to provide sports betting services, which is pending state approval.
