Oklahoma vs. Texas Prediction and CFB Picks for 10/07:

The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns have felt like they were on a collision course since Week 0 of the college football season. Both teams managed to stay undefeated, which was more of a surprise for Texas. Few pundits expected them to beat Alabama, but that is what they did in Tuscaloosa. The Longhorns followed that up with a resounding win last week covering at home against Kansas.

Oklahoma is a 6.5-point underdog for Saturday’s game. They come in on Saturday afternoon undefeated at 5-0 (like Texas). So, one has a 12th-ranked Sooners team going up against a third-ranked Texas team with College Football Playoff aspirations. If Texas wins, they will likely run the table. If Oklahoma wins, only Oklahoma State and “Bedlam” stand in the way of a playoff spot.

We're deconstructing the game a bit with a spread, an Over/Under wager on the total, and a fun game touchdown prop. Be sure to take a look at what we are up to on our best college football Week 6 bets

How to Watch Oklahoma vs. Texas

The national television spotlight glares deep in the heart of Texas as Oklahoma and Texas face off in the “Red River Rivalry.” This is the 118th edition of the game, which began way back in 1900. Oklahoma historically has a 50-63-4 record but has won 10 of the past 14 contests. Last year saw Texas rout the Sooners by 49. Saturday figures to feature a game that will be a little closer.

The impetus is to roll with Texas -6.5 (-110) at DraftKings anyway. Now, the reality is that Oklahoma is a very good but unproven team. Dillon Gabriel has been an incredible quarterback for the Sooners and has made some say, “Caleb Williams, Who?” That sounds like crazy talk, but it is true. Gabriel has racked up nearly 1,600 yards passing and 19 touchdowns (15 passing, 4 rushing).

However, the reality is that Oklahoma is facing a defense in Texas that can make plays. It is great that the Sooners have averaged nearly 54 points a contest. The turnover margin reigns supreme in a game like this. Looking at the two defenses, Texas has played the stiffer opposition (SOS 3rd compared to 31st for Oklahoma). The feeling is either team likely wins by seven or more points, which leads us to our first pick.

⭐  Texas -6.5 (-110) at DraftKings

⭐ Over 60.5 (-105) at FanDuel

There was this sense that when the totals opened for the Oklahoma-Texas game, change was inevitable. At one point, the number crawled down to 57.5 points. Even at 60-62.5 points, that seems too low also. A “Red River Shootout” feels likely between Gabriel and Quinn Ewers on Saturday afternoon. Only some scattered offensive miscues could slow that down somewhat.

Both quarterbacks and teams face quite a bit of pressure (ABC coverage). Texas might feel the heat a bit more, but they have been there before. See Alabama. The Longhorns thrived, then emphatically beat Alabama on the road.  Oklahoma’s defense will allow points, and so will Texas. The ease at which both teams can score 30+ points is frankly frightening.

Texas scored 40 last week against Kansas and could have come close to 50. Oklahoma, as we said, has averaged more than 50 points. The Longhorns can control the clock a bit better with their running game, but Oklahoma will try to entice Ewers to pass more. Increasing the offensive potential keeps the pace high. This is the only way the Sooners can win. Again, that helps the Over go a good deal higher than 60.5, which is -105 on FanDuel.

⭐ Recommended Bet: Over 60.5 (-105) at FanDuel

⭐ Quinn Ewers Touchdown Anytime Score (+135) at BetMGM

Oklahoma and Texas can bring the heat offensively. There is little doubt scores will happen more than often enough. Now, the quarterbacks have combined for 34 touchdowns between the two. Quinn Ewers has a nose for the goal line. Though he only has 10 scores through the air, the Texas quarterback has five in five games on the ground. His frame is big enough to lean and leap into the end zone on Saturday.

So, one player prop bet on the Oklahoma vs. Texas game is the anytime score (+135) at BetMGM. Last week again saw Ewers find paydirt. Again, these are not passing touchdowns. Those do not count for a signal-caller. Only rushing and receiving touchdowns trigger a winning wager on the anytime score prop. Keep that in mind.

Some did wonder about Jonathon Brooks. He has two or more touchdowns in consecutive games. His multiple-touchdown prop is now up to +180 on BetMGM. It had been near Even on FanDuel and DraftKings earlier in the week. Again, the Texas offense has some juice here.

⭐  Quinn Ewers Anytime Score (+135) at BetMGM
