Houston Texans vs. Carolina Panthers NFL Week 8 Predictions

The only positive thing for the Carolina Panthers happened last week: the team didn't lose. Carolina was on a much-needed bye after losing its first six games with the Panthers not being competitive in a majority of them. Much of the issue stems from Carolina having one of the worst offenses in the league, ranking 30th in yards per play (4.4). We're going to look to fade the Panthers by targeting Bryce Young's passing yards prop.

We're going with Bryce Young Under 226.5 Passing Yards (-110) at BetMGM. Young has only surpassed this yardage total in just one of five games this season, and that was against Detroit in the 42-24 loss when some of the 247 yards came in garbage time with the game decided. Young ranks dead last in the league in yards per pass attempt (5.3).

Young's lack of production doesn't warrant an over on his passing yards prop considering how anemic the Panthers offense has been. The only positive is maybe an extra week of preparation helps Young, but until we start to see more success, we're going to fade Young.

Houston Texans vs. Carolina Panthers NFL Week 8 Predictions

Much of Houston's offensive success can be credited to rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. The Texans have yet to establish a consistent rushing attack, with lead back Damon Pierce averaging just 2.9 yards per carry for 281 yards on the season. But this could be a breakout spot for Pierce and the Texans against the Panthers.

We like Damon Pierce Over 54.5 Rushing Yards (-114) at FanDuel. Carolina has one of the worst run defenses in the league, ranking 31st in rushing yards allowed per game (144.3) and 28th in yards allowed per rush (4.9).

Pierce should get a heavy workload against Carolina. Despite the overall lack of success in the run game for Houston, the Texans have remained committed to running the ball, ranking 12th in rushes per game with 27.8. We like Pierce to have a solid outing considering a high projected usage and the Panthers' porous rush defense.

C.J. Stroud has emerged as the betting favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year. He's currently listed at -175 on FanDuel to win the award after completing 59% of is passes for 1,660 yards and nine touchdowns to just one interception. We're going to back Stroud in the matchup against the Panthers with his passing yards prop.

We like C.J. Stroud Over 245.5 Passing Yards (-114) at FanDuel. He's gone over this yardage prop number in four of six games this season and will face a bad Panthers defense.

Carolina is 26th in yards allowed per pass (7.0) and 18th in opponent completion percentage against (66%). Meanwhile, the Texans rank fifth in passing yards per contest with 258.5 yards. Given Stroud's success to this point, we expect him to continue to roll against a weak Carolina defense.
